Entrance Requirements
Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics; OR VTC Diploma of Foundation Studies with successful completion of Foundation Mathematics III; OR VTC Diploma of Vocational Education with successful completion of Mathematics 3G / 3E; OR VTC Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate; OR Diploma Yi Jin with successful completion of Mathematics Plus; OR Equivalent.
Remarks :
  1. Holders of VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies / VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education / Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin without successful completion of the relevant optional Mathematics module, should possess HKDSE Mathematics at Level 2 or above.
  2. An "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively, and a maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose.
  3. A "Grade D or E" and a "Grade C or above" in an HKDSE Other Language subject (Category C subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2" and "Level 3" respectively, and one Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose.
  4. Applicable to holders of Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) (students admitted to DVE in AY2017/18 or before are required to complete prescribed further studies modules).
  5. Upon completion of the Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (DVB) Programmes, students can progress to higher diploma programmes in VTC, subject to their BTEC and IGCSE results.

Programme Stream
IVE (Haking Wong) offers a stream in Electrical Services in cooperation with Shenzhen Polytechnic.

Programme Aims
This programme aims to provide the necessary professional knowledge and practical skills for students to become professional practitioners in Electrical Engineering and related fields and to equip them to apply for the related professional certificates and trade licenses, such as the Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card). Graduates fulfill the academic requirements for Grade B Registered Electrical Worker by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the government of the Hong Kong SAR. 

This programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

Career Prospects
Graduates are very much welcome by the industry. They are normally employed as assistant engineers, technicians, supervisors, technical sales engineers. Most of them work in the areas of electrical services, electrical installation, power engineering & smart grid, E&M operation and maintenance, electrical & electronic servicing, intelligent systems, energy audit and management, lighting systems.
Articulation
Graduates can apply for admission to the relevant BEng (Hons) programmes offered by the local universities. Upon admission to relevant degree programmes, graduates can apply for credit exemption. The level of exemption will be considered on individual basis.

Higher Diploma is recognised by most overseas universities. Special offers are given by the RMIT University, Australia (2-year full-time and 8-semester part-time BEng programmes studying in HK in collaboration with SHAPE of VTC).
Professional Recognition
This programme is recognised by :
  1. The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) as satisfying the academic requirements for its Associate Membership;
  2. The Labour Department of the Hong Kong S.A.R. Government as fulfilling the Mandatory Basic Safety Training requirements for working in construction sites and green card;
  3. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the Hong Kong S.A.R. Government as fulfilling the academic requirements for Grade B Registered Electrical Worker.
