Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

[Students are required to follow the programme arrangements stipulated by IVE, on average 4 evenings per week, normally 3 semesters per academic year.]

The programme provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become competent professionals in mechanical engineering. Upon completion of the programme, graduates will have acquired the necessary academic, technical and management knowledge and skills which enable them to secure employment in the technical/operational/market development and follow-up services functions in the field of mechanical engineering.

The programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

Graduates may apply for admission to the relevant BEng (Hons) courses offered by the following local universities:

1. The University of Hong Kong;
   
2. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology;
   
3. The Chinese University of Hong Kong;
   
4. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University;
   
5. City University of Hong Kong.
   

Upon admission to relevant degree courses, graduates can apply for credit exemption. The level of exemption will be considered on individual basis.

Higher Diploma is recognised by most overseas universities.
 
Graduates may further their studies for the top-up Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) (Honours) offered by RMIT University, Australia in collaboration with the School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) of VTC (2-year full-time and 3-year part-time programme study in Hong Kong). Please refer to the corresponding programme page on the website of SHAPE.

Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.
