The programme aims to provide the necessary professional knowledge and practical skills for students to become professional practitioners in Electrical Engineering and related fields and to equip them to apply for the related professional certificates and trade licenses, such as the Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card). Graduates fulfill the academic requirements for Grade B Registered Electrical Worker by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the government of the Hong Kong SAR.
This programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

Graduates are very much welcome by the industry. They are normally employed as assistant engineers, technicians, supervisors, technical sales engineers. Most of them work in the areas of electrical services, electrical installation, power engineering, E&M operation and maintenance, electrical & electronic servicing, intelligent systems, energy audit and management, lighting systems.
Graduates can apply for admission to the relevant BEng (Hons) programmes offered by the local universities. Upon admission to relevant degree programmes, graduates can apply for credit exemption. The level of exemption will be considered on individual basis.
Higher Diploma is recognised by most overseas universities. Special offers are given by RMIT University, Australia (2-year full-time and 8-semester part-time BEng programmes studying in HK in collaboration with SHAPE of VTC).
