Programme Aims
The programme comprises two academic module sets and aims to prepare students for careers as technicians in the surveying profession, assisting professional surveyors in two major areas of work:
  1. Building Surveying - Inspection of new buildings prior to occupation; building inspection and maintenance; planning, designing, managing and monitoring building projects; supervising the construction and revitalization of buildings; and co-ordinating the activities for construction project development.
  2. Quantity Surveying - financial planning for construction projects; preparation of cost estimates; tendering; cash flow forecast; cost control; preparation of bills of quantities, contract documents and specification; contract administration; construction project management; value assessment; arbitration and dispute resolution.

The programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.
Career Prospects
Graduates may be employed as building inspectors, maintenance supervisors, survey officers, building surveying assistants, quantity surveying assistants, estimators, and project co-ordinators. They may pursue further study for career advancement to the professional level.

Professional Recognition
The programme is widely accepted by the industry. It is accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers as a required academic qualification for their Associate Membership. Recognition from other relevant professional bodies will also be sought.
 
The graduates with relevant work experience are eligible to become Grades T1 to T3 of Technically Competent Person (TCP) of specific streams and scopes under the Site Supervision Plan System of the Buildings Ordinance.
 
Graduates completed the required module of the programme will be issued with Green Cards which fulfills the Mandatory Basic Safety Training requirement for working in construction sites.

The programme is a CIC-accredited BIM Coordinator (CCBC) Course*.
*Including a pass in the elective module “BIM for Reinforced Concrete Structures.”
