VTC releases Sustainability Report 2024–25 steady progress in carbon reduction advancing green campuses and talent development
-
The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has released its second Sustainability Report, highlighting VTC’s efforts in environmental protection and sustainable development in the 24/25 academic year. The report demonstrates VTC’s commitment to supporting the Government’s long-term decarbonisation strategy and to integrating sustainability into its daily operations and Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET). It also highlights VTC’s efforts to enhance staff well-being and professional development, and to strengthen corporate social responsibility through community engagement.
Significant carbon reduction, supporting the Government’s vision of achieving carbon neutrality
As Hong Kong’s largest VPET provider, VTC integrates sustainability across its premises. In the 2024/25 academic year, carbon emissions decreased by 21% compared with the AY2018/19 baseline, surpassing the interim target of a 10% reduction originally set for 2029/30.
VTC fully supports the Government’s target of achieving carbon neutrality before 2050. VTC aims to further reduce carbon emissions by 2035 through equipment upgrades, improvements in building energy efficiency and the encouragement of sustainable development across campuses, paving the way toward the long-term goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Integrating sustainability into education and daily life to nurture green talent and develop staff capabilities
VTC incorporates sustainability concepts into VPET and daily operations. Through participation in sustainability-related events, partnerships and recognition schemes, VTC continues to strengthen its connections with the community and industry. To seize opportunities in the digital and green era, VTC has introduced AI-related training into relevant programmes to support the integration of emerging technologies in teaching, learning and daily operations, equipping students and staff with future-ready skills and empowering them for sustainable professional development.
Looking ahead, VTC will continue to enhance infrastructure and technology adoption, advocate for student and staff engagement and community participation, to further strengthen VPET’s contribution to sustainable development, nurturing talent and fostering a greener future.
