THEi students claim 2nd Runner Up in the Asia MICE Youth Challenge 2024

A team of four Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) students in Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and International Events Management students CHEN Xiangling, MAK Wai-Hon, LIAO Qiuchan and ARFAN Sania won the 2nd Runner Up with their creative business ideas in the 9th Asia MICE Youth Challenge 2024 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Organised by the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA), the competition gathered a total of 21 teams from nine countries and regions to participate in the competition.

CCI and ICI students, graduates and instructors receive six awards in the 2024 China-ASEAN Culinary Skill Competition 

Students, graduates and instructors from the Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and the International Culinary Institute (ICI) have won multiple awards at the 2024 China-ASEAN Culinary Skill Competition held at Nanning, China. The team has garnered a total of six awards, including the First Prize in “Western Style Cuisine” and five Third Prizes in the “Team Booth Design Exhibition”, “Chinese Style Cuisine”, “Innovative Pastries” and “Instructor Guidance Award” categories. The competition was organised by the Education Department of the Guangxi Autonomous Region, gathering participants from China and ASEAN countries with the purpose of exchanging the culinary art.

CCI students and instructors claim five awards in the 17th Asian Culinary Exchange Competition 

Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) students and instructors have claimed five awards at the 17th Asian Culinary Exchange Competition, including a Gold of Distinction in the “Team Best Creativity”, three Golden Awards and one Silver Award. The competition was organised by the Asia Art of Cuisine Society at Beijing, China, bringing together top chefs from the Asia to foster the exchange and promotion of Chinese culinary culture.

CCI students win two awards in the Gourmet Master Chefs Global Challenge 2024 

Two students of the Chinese Culinary Institute’s (CCI) Diploma in Chinese Cuisine, LAW Pak-hei and YE Hao-hua won the “Best Performance” and “Best Creativity” awards respectively under the student group category at the Gourmet Master Chefs Global Challenge 2024. The competition was organised by the International Association of Gourmet Master Chefs & Hospitality Executives at Thailand, attracting participants all around the world.

HKDI graduate wins award in the World of WearableArt 2024

Edith MOK Hoi-ching, a graduate of the Higher Diploma in Fashion Image Design from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), has won the prestigious Dame Suzie Moncrieff Award at the World of WearableArt 2024 (WOW). WOW is New Zealand's largest annual arts event, and the Dame Suzie Moncrieff Award is personally selected by WOW's founder, Dame Suzie Moncrieff, from over 90 entries from around the world. This honour showcases Edith's exceptional talent and creativity.

THEi and HKDI students sweep five awards in the 41st HK Watch & Clock Design Competition

Three Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) students and two students from Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) have stood out among 70 entries with their innovative designs and secured five awards in the 41st HK Watch & Clock Design Competition organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Students from THEi, YU Po-kwan claimed 2nd Runner Up in the Student Group category, while MAN Tsz-kit and LEUNG Tat-fai claimed Merit Awards. HKDI graduates sweep four awards in the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2024

Three graduates from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) in Higher Diploma in the Fashion Design, Tiger CHUNG Tsz-ho, K NG Yuk-ting and Yoyo CHAN Pui-yi shone in the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2024. They have won all four awards, including Champion, Excellence Award, Best Art Direction and My Favourite Collection. HKDI graduate wins two awards in the Redress Design Award 2024

Graduate from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) in Bachelor's Degree and Higher Diploma in the Fashion Design, Tiger CHUNG Ka-ching, won the First Prize and Hong Kong Best in the Redress Design Award 2024. The Redress Design Award is the premier sustainable fashion design competition, aimed at educating emerging designers on sustainable practices to foster a circular fashion system.

IT students receive two innovation awards in the 2nd City I&T Grand Challenge

VTC IT students from Higher Diploma and Diploma of Vocational Education have won two innovation awards in the 2nd City I&T Grand Challenge with their projects “GeProVis Al Screen Reader” and “HeatGuard”. Organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, the Challenge aimed at promoting the application of innovation and technology to tackle social problems.

IT students sweep multiple awards in the 19th Cross-Strait and Hong Kong-Macao College Student Computer Innovation Competition

VTC IT students from Higher Diploma and Diploma of Vocational Education have won multiple awards in the 19th Cross-Strait and Hong Kong-Macao College Student Computer Innovation Competition (Vocational Education Stream) 2024. The awards include several First Class, Third Class and Outstanding showcase awards. Under the guidance of their teachers, the participating students developed multiple innovative projects utilising technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud systems, fully showcasing the achievements of vocational and professional education and training (VPET).

IVE & HKDI students join hands with Sik Sik Yuen to develop new Soft Meal Dim Sum

VTC Community Engagement Unit collaborated with Health and Life Sciences Discipline, Design Discipline and Sik Sik Yuen to develop two types of Soft Meal Dim Sum (Steamed Chicken Roll and Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean Sauce Rice). The elderly were invited to taste the products at the launching event and recognition ceremony. After tasting the soft meal, the elderly reminisced about the joyful moments of dining in traditional teahouses in the past.

HKDI students receive awards in bus design competition to raise awareness about environmental protection

Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) collaborated with the Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) to hold a bus design competition that aimed to promote environmental protection. The works of three award-winning students from the Diploma of Foundation Studies (Design) would be emblazoned on buses that traveled across the New Territories, Kowloon, and Hong Kong Island, spreading messages of environmental protection throughout the community.

Team Hong Kong sweeps five awards in the Second Belt and Road International Skills Competition

Five VTC graduates and students achieved remarkable results with their dedicated efforts by sweeping five medals in the Second Belt and Road International Skills Competition held in Chongqing, China. YIU Ho-man won the Gold medal in the “Pâtisserie and Confectionery” competition, WONG Wai Shing won 1 Silver in “IoT Installation & Debugging”. While WANG Lui, LO Tsz-chung and LEUNG Andy Tsz-yin, claimed 3 Medallions of Excellence in competitions of “Beauty Therapy”, “Electrical Installations” and “Information Network Cabling” respectively. The competition gathered nearly 200 participants from 61 countries and regions, each showcasing their skills in 18 different trades.

HTI and ICI students sweep ten awards in the International Bakaffe Black Box Contest

Seven students from Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI) and International Culinary Institute (ICI) won ten awards at the International Bakaffe Black Box Contest. The team claimed the Champion and 2nd Runner Up in the “Perfect Match” category, together with two Silvers in the “Dessert” and “Bagel” categories, while six Bronzes in “Dessert”, “Bagel” and “Coffee” categories. The competition held by the Hong Kong Association of Bakery and Coffee Practitioners has gathered ten teams consisting of professionals and students from Hong Kong and Macau.

Awarding students are TANG Tsz-king (Champion & The Best Creative), LEUNG Tung-yan and CHEUNG Ming-wai (The First Runner Up) and LEE Sai-fung (The Best Costume Design).

HKDI students claim community programme award in the 12th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards

Six students from Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) students in Higher Diploma in Interior Design and participants of the Happy Ageing Lab, CHAN Wing-ho, CHAN Ka-ni, LIANG Wing-yin, TANG Wing-yin, TSUI Yin-ting and YUEN Hau-yi have won the Innovation of the Year - Active Ageing Community Programme prize at the 12th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards 2024. The project "Hou2 Living Gallery@City One Shatin" aimed to create an age-friendly living environment in private housing estates through retrofitting ideas. The project has demonstrated improvements in social engagement and well-being for older people.

Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) graduate in Higher Diploma in Interior Design, Austin CHAN received the bronze winner award in the student group category at the 2024 International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) Design Distinction Awards, for his design project "Oasis".

IT student shines in Apple Swift Student Challenge

TSANG Yuk-lam, Alan, a Higher Diploma student in Artificial Intelligence and Mobile Software Development, won the “Distinguished Winner” honour for his project “NanoCraft” in the 2024 Apple Swift Student Challenge. The “Distinguished Winner” award was a new category introduced this year to specially recognise outstanding participants. Alan is not only among the first batch of winners to receive this prestigious accolade, but is also the sole “Distinguished Winner” from Hong Kong.

HKDI & YCI students receive awards at the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards

Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) teachers and students from the Department of Communication Design won the Gold Award in the Conceptual Category at the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards 2024 for a virtual HKDI campus experience game, “MetaHKDI”. Moreover, Youth College (International) Design student, Martin TO has won the Merit Award in the Conceptual Category and Student Award in the Product Group with his decorative lighting piece “DISTINCTION” at the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards 2024.

The competition has gathered competitors from various countries and regions, acting as a platform for skills exchange.

Four graduates from School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE) (SIU Po-ling, MAN Sze-yan, LIU Hok-hin, NG Ching-kei) have achieved success in the 2nd "My Hong Kong Story" English Short Film Competition organised by The Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR. The student’s work titled "We Connect" stood out among all 100 entries, demonstrating their talent.

VTC IT students from Higher Diploma and Diploma of Vocational Education have won multiple awards in the 8th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area IT System Development Competition, including the First Class, Second Class, Best Creative and Best Presentation awards. Their projects “iSchoolMatch” and “Azure OpenAI Virtual Assistant” leverage the power of Google Cloud Platform and the latest Generative AI technologies to support students’ academic experience.

YCI sport student wins double gold at Outreach Canoe Competition

A Youth College (International) Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (YCI DVB) (Sport) student, WONG King-yin, showcased impressive performance at the Outreach Coaching Canoe Competition organised by the Hong Kong China Canoe Union. The student claimed the Champion titles in both the Senior Men's K1-500m and K1-200m events, bringing home two gold medals.

YCI students develop solar-powered air-to-water generation system and win runner-up at the Solar Future Challenge

A team of six students from the Youth College (International) Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (YCI DVB) (Engineering) programme (WONG Lok-him, Marcus, CHENG Kin-tat, Kinder, LI Chun, NG Wang-yau, Anson, WONG Boonyapat, and WU Ka-shing) developed a solar-powered floating device “Solar-AquaSphere” that won the First Runner-up in the senior secondary group and the Most Creative Award at the Solar Future Challenge 2024 competition. The YCI team stood out among 15 participating teams from different secondary and primary schools, demonstrating innovative capabilities.

YCI Students shortlisted in Top 10 for AI and Innovation Technology Competition with smart toilet seat

The team of Youth College (International) Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (Engineering) (YCI DVB) students, CHENG Kin-tat, WEI Chi-yeung and LEUNG Chi-wai, developed a "Data Driven Smart A.I. Toilet Seat" project which won the Best Functionality and Interface Design Award at the Artificial Intelligence and Innovation and Technology Competition 2023–2024 organised by The Education University of Hong Kong. The project was selected as one of the top 10 finalists out of 50 entries.

HKDI students demonstrate craftsmanship and claim Champions at Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition

Two Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) students HUANG Jing-wen and TAM Suet-ying from the Higher Diploma in Jewellery Design and Technology programme demonstrated their design skills and creativity, and won the Championships of the Student Group (Disruptive Innovations) and Student Group (True Selves) categories respectively at the Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition 2024, which was organised by The Jewellers' and Goldsmiths' Association of Hong Kong Limited.
