Ms. Heidi CHOW - Dr Ng Tat-lun Memorial Outstanding Students Award Scheme Awardee
My seven-year journey at VTC has been anything but smooth. I faced emotional struggles, took academic leave, and switched disciplines, often just trying to get through each day. I had no plan and felt stuck, until my teachers encouraged me: "Just try first, see how it goes. You ‘ve got nothing to lose." They guided me to strive not for awards, but to find direction.
Receiving the Dr Ng Tat-lun Memorial Outstanding Students Award Scheme is not a mark of success, but a reminder that letting go of resistance and making use resources around me was the only way to find my way out of the fog.
An internship at Siemens Mobility was a turning point. Watching my supervisor handle high-pressure tasks while genuinely caring for the team taught me that balance is not a natural gift, but a skill built through daily effort. Now, leading my own startup team, I focus on bridging ideals with reality, adjusting our pace to match our capacity, and ensuring sustainable growth. My struggles taught me to aim high while truly caring for my team, so that growth and results move forward together.
Ultimately, I see challenges as required courses, not risks. Opportunities are always there, waiting for us to simply begin.
