Bright Future Charitable Foundation – Innovative Smart Living Design Competition Scholarship 2024/25

    27 Jun 2025

The first Prize Presentation Ceremony of the “Bright Future Charitable Foundation – Innovative Smart Living Design Competition Scholarship” was held at Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) on 27 June 2025 to celebrate the outstanding performance of Product Design students.

The scholarship, generously donated by Dr Roy Chung, aims to encourage students to pursue excellence in their future design and career paths. The judging panel of the Scholarship are composed of the representatives from smart and electrical appliances industries, including Mr Ken Fung, the Chairman of Design Council of Hong Kong, Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Mr Thomas Ting, the Chairman of Hong Kong Electrical Appliance Industries Association, Mr John Cheng, the Founder and CEO of MOMAX Technology Ltd; and the academic team of Product Design, HKDI.

Ten (10) groups of students who demonstrated exceptional design talent and creativity were awarded scholarships ranging from HK$6,000 to HK$25,000. Among the awardees, we are delighted to spotlight the champion design "COMB", created by students Chan Man Yan and Lo Mei Ting. This innovative design stood out for its creative approach and market potential, detecting hair conditions and providing solutions for hair problems. The “COMB” is equipped with optical sensors and cameras to monitor users’ hair and scalp conditions. When users comb their hair, the device will collect related data of the hair condition and transmit the information to a backend system for analysis in order to provide professional advice tailored to the user’s needs.

Once again, we express our deepest appreciation to Dr Roy Chung for his generous support and steadfast commitment to fostering talent. His contributions have spotlighted the remarkable smart living designs and academic accomplishments of students in the Higher Diploma in Product Design program of the VTC, empowering them to achieve recognition through the Scholarship.
