The final pitching of the Bright Future Charitable Foundation – Innovative Smart Living Design Competition Scholarship held successfully at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) on 30 March. Generously supported by Dr Roy Chung, Founder of the Bright Future Charitable Foundation, the Scholarship is dedicated to inspiring product design students to pursue excellence and innovation in smart living solutions.

The judging panel of the Scholarship brought together expertise from across the industry and academia, including Dr Roy Chung, Mr Thomas Ting, Chairman of the Hong Kong Electrical Appliance Industries Association, Mr John Cheng, Founder and CEO of MOMAX Technology Ltd, as well as members of the Product Design academic team at HKDI. Together, the judges offered insightful professional feedback and constructive recommendations to help students further refine their projects.

Ten shortlisted student teams showcased innovative concepts aimed at enhancing quality of life through smart design. Scholarships ranging from HK$6,000 to HK$25,000 were awarded. The Champion Award went to “VitalLink”, an innovative smart medication dispenser designed by students Adrian Man and Chen Lijie. The project stood out for its strong practical relevance and market potential in addressing healthcare challenges faced by the ageing population. Featuring automated monthly refills, timed dispensing, and app-based synchronisation, “VitalLink” supports elderly individuals living independently while enabling family members and healthcare professionals to monitor adherence and provide timely consultation. These features collectively enhance medication safety, reliability, and peace of mind for users and caregivers.

Since its launch in the 2024/25 academic year, the Scholarship has supported around 40 students in developing socially impactful smart living designs. We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr Roy Chung for his generosity and commitment to nurturing Product Design talent at HKDI, and for championing innovation that makes a meaningful difference in society.
