The Vocational Training Council (VTC) and the Hong Kong Police Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote talent training and foster the development of vocational and professional education and training (VPET). Under this MoU, both parties will collaborate on training programme development, student internship opportunities, as well as on-the-job training for the Police Force.

The MoU signing ceremony took place last Friday (28 February) at the Chai Wan campus of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), a member institution of VTC. Witnessed by VTC Chairman Tony TAI and Commissioner of Police SIU Chak-yee, the MoU was signed by VTC Deputy Executive Director Dr Alaina SHUM and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) CHAN Joon-sun.

VTC Chairman Tony TAI thanked the Hong Kong Police Force for its support of VTC and VPET. As the largest VPET provider in Hong Kong, VTC is committed to providing high-quality and up-to-date training, which helps young people and working adults acquire the latest knowledge and skills and nurture professional talent for the industry. He believed that this collaboration would deepen VTC students' understanding of disciplined services, preparing them for careers in relevant professions.

Commissioner of Police SIU Chak-yee expressed his gratitude to the VTC for its support in the training and recruitment efforts of the Force. He said that the Force has always attached great importance to talent training, and that through close collaboration between the two parties, the establishment of a comprehensive training system, ranging from theoretical studies to practical exercises, will help the Police recruit high-calibre young individuals with potential and aspirations to join the disciplined services, injecting new vitality into the continual development of the Force.

Under the MoU, the Hong Kong Police Force will work with VTC to enrich the curriculum of IVE’s Higher Diploma in Management for Disciplined Services programme, with a view to better preparing students to pursue careers in disciplined services. In addition to curriculum collaboration, VTC will encourage students to participate in the “Police Mentorship Programme (PMP)”. The PMP will offer a variety of activities to familiarise VTC students with the duties of the Police Force and help them develop their potential while planning their career paths. The Police Force will offer internship opportunities for VTC students who join PMP and share professional knowledge and practical skills related to Police work with them. The Police Force will also organise anti-crime/anti-deception seminars to raise the awareness of crime and fraud prevention among students.

Besides, VTC will provide in-service training programmes and continuing education opportunities to Police officers to meet their professional development needs.
