-
The Vocational Training Council (VTC) will offer over 140 full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies (DFS), Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) and Diploma programmes in Academic Year 2025/26, providing diversified progression pathways for Secondary 6 students. The programmes are open for applications from this Thursday (7 November) to 28 February 2025.
VTC member institutions including the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and the International Culinary Institute (ICI) will offer around 100 Higher Diploma programmes. In response to societal and market development, VTC will launch a number of new programmes in the upcoming academic year to equip students with the skills needed in the industry and strengthen their competitiveness.
New programmes in AY25/26 to keep pace with market developments
One of the new programmes is the Higher Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence offered by the HKIIT. The programme will focus on developing the students’ knowledge and skills in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), language models, image processing, and computer vision. Students can learn to apply different AI models to solve challenges across various industries and areas, helping industries adapt to the significant changes brought about by the development and application of the generative AI technology.
With the Government’s plan to release the Chinese Medicine Development Blueprint in 2025, and the operation of the Hong Kong’s first Chinese Medicine Hospital (CMH) expected to commence next year, there is a keen manpower demand in the industry. IVE will offer a new Higher Diploma in Chinese Medicine Professional and Operation to equip students with skills related to Chinese medicine, including Chinese medicine therapies, Chinese medicine health care, and administrative and management duties of Chinese medicine clinics, aiming to train talents to assist in the effective provision, management and operation of these services.
Hong Kong has been vigorously promoting the development of sports and related industries in recent years. The Diploma of Foundation Studies – Sports, newly offered by IVE, provides students who are passionate about sports with a comprehensive education upon completion of Secondary 6. The programme equips students with the generic and sports related vocational skills, and prepares them for articulation to related Higher Diploma programmes. The professional and trade-related skills taught will help them cope with the growth of the increasingly prosperous and diverse sports industry.
Due to the growing demand for digital media design talents spurred by digitalisation, HKDI will offer a Higher Diploma in Digital Media Production and a Higher Diploma in User Experience Design programme. The former programme cultivates students' skills in creating digital content for social media and portable platforms, and the latter cultivates design thinking and techniques for crafting effective user experience (UX).
Degree and Diploma programmes to provide more study options
VTC member institutions including IVE, HKDI, HKIIT, Youth College and the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and ICI will also provide more than 30 diploma programmes, including DFS, DVE and Diploma programmes. These provide seamless and flexible progression pathways for students and equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to pave the way for success in their future studies and career.
The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) will offer a range of applied science-oriented degree programmes including self-financing programmes and programmes under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) of the HKSAR Government (Remark 1). (General entrance requirements for respective programmes are listed at Annex 1)
Over 140 programmes at various levels offered by VTC are open for applications from this Thursday (7 November). Students are invited to submit applications through the VTC S6 Admissions Portal (www.vtc.edu.hk/admission) for programmes of the various VTC member institutions. Programme choices should be specified when making applications. Applicants only need to submit one application to apply for programmes at multiple member institutions. VTC has always encouraged students to pursue their interests and values students' non-academic achievements. With VTC’s special admission scheme, such as the Principal's Nomination Scheme, students who possess special qualities in non-academic areas can apply through this scheme for admission to VTC programmes. Students are advised to upload supporting documents of their non-academic achievements during online application, in order to demonstrate their exceptional qualities and performance for VTC's consideration.
Students who submit their applications on or before 28 February 2025 may receive conditional offers by late March 2025, so that they can focus on preparing for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) with peace of mind.
