VTC hosts the VTC Skills Fiesta 2025 on the Great Lawn of the West Kowloon Cultural District, featuring over 40 performances and interactive booths. The event attracts members of the public to experience how vocational skills are integrated into everyday life.

With the full support of the Education Bureau, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) hosted the VTC Skills Fiesta 2025 today (26 October) on the Great Lawn of the West Kowloon Cultural District. As Hong Kong’s largest outdoor vocational skills carnival, the Fiesta featured over 40 performances and interactive booths. The event showcased the professional skills of VTC teachers and students, closely aligned with Hong Kong’s evolving development, highlighting emerging trends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cultural creativity, and sports tourism. The Fiesta promoted awareness of vocational skills and encouraged public to experience how Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) integrates into everyday life while enjoying the “Infinite Fun in Life” through hands-on and fun-filled activities on a vibrant autumn Sunday.

Officiating guests at today’s opening ceremony included Secretary for Education Dr CHOI Yuk-lin, VTC’s Chairman Tony TAI, VTC’s Deputy Chairman Paul CHONG, VTC’s former Chairman Dr Roy CHUNG and VTC’s Executive Director Donald TONG. Together, they marked the beginning of a day filled with exciting, skills-driven experiences.

In addressing the event, Secretary for Education Dr CHOI Yuk-lin said, “The carnival enables everyone to gain a deeper understanding through diverse experiences that vocational education not only enhances quality of life but also contributes to society. We are fully committed to promoting the development of Vocational and Professional Education and Training in Hong Kong. In addition to ongoing efforts to raise public awareness, we are aligning with Hong Kong's future development directions to further promote professionalism in the industries. We hope the younger generation will gain a deeper experience of the innovation and vibrancy of different sectors, thereby sparking their interest in pursuing careers within these fields.”

Mr TAI noted that talent is the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s sustainable development, and education serves as the foundation for talent cultivation. As the largest VPET provider in Hong Kong, VTC is committed to delivering industry relevant programmes and offering flexible pathways for young people and working adults with diverse aspirations. By equipping learners with professional knowledge, applied skills, and an innovative mindset, VTC contributes to nurturing practical and capable professionals. He highlighted the VTC Skills Fiesta as a meaningful occasion for the community to witness the achievements of VPET. Mr TAI also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government and industry partners for their continued support, which enables VTC to further enhance the development of VPET and effectively respond to the evolving manpower needs of society and industries.

Following the opening ceremony, Dr CHOI and other guests enjoyed the Fashion and Image Performance Show, visited various booths, and interacted with students. They explored the “AI Studio” developed by the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) team, which showcased the application of generative AI in the animation industry. They also learnt about the solar-powered car SOPHIE 8x, developed by the Engineering Discipline of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), and heard from the championship team about their winning experience in the Cruiser Class of the World Solar Challenge 2025. With Halloween approaching, guests joined students and teachers from the Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) to prepare the “Traditional Egg Waffle with a Halloween Twist”, giving the treat a playful appearance in festive spirit. They also watched the “Live Sketching Activity” prepared by Youth College (International) students and visited the “Explore VPET” booth, where they came to know about VTC students' learning achievements — affirming VPET’s contribution in providing diverse development opportunities for the new generation.

The Fiesta featured four thematic zones, each representing a key aspect of daily life, including “Creative Haven”, “Culinary Paradise”, “Cozy Abode”, and “Action Adventure”.

In recent years, the HKSAR Government has actively promoted the application of AI to empower industries. VPET has kept pace with the times, and the Fiesta showcased the potential and advantages of AI through engaging experiences. The “AI Studio”, developed by the team of Higher Diploma in Games and Animation programme of HKIIT, drew visitors with its AI technology. By simply facing the camera, each participant saw a unique game character instantly generated based on the individual’s appearance, expression and outfit — transforming into a martial arts-inspired figure. The experience was both entertaining and educational, offering insights into AI applications in the multimedia industry. Nearby, fencing enthusiasts tried out the “AI Fencing System”, a collaborative project developed by the VTC Smart City Innovation Centre and STEAM Education Centre, HKIIT and Youth College (International). Participants aimed to strike illuminated targets with speed and precision, while the AI system analysed their posture and provided feedback. This activity highlighted the importance of reaction time and concentration, while also offering a fun glimpse into fencing.

The cultural and creative industries are an integral part of shaping Hong Kong's diversified economy, and the Fiesta showcased the creative power of the new generation. In the Fashion and Image Performance Show, students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), and the Youth College presented over 50 creative outfits through a dynamic fusion of dance, lighting and music — fully displaying their talents in fashion and image design, as well as stage production. Singers from the VTC music brand "V Music" performed original songs, connecting with the audience through music. The thematic zone "Creative Haven" attracted many young visitors who enjoyed making enamel brooches and creative garden jewellery, merging traditional craftsmanship with trendy culture to create unique handmade art pieces.

With the 15th National Games entering its countdown phase, it has not only ignited city-wide enthusiasm for sports but also boosted the development of sports tourism. Sports lovers took part in a variety of sports-related skill activities, including the “Bike Simulator Project – A Virtual Ride in Tsing Yi Campus” developed by HKIIT. Participants used a bike simulator for a virtual ride at IVE Tsing Yi Campus while exploring game development and BIM technology. Others tried their hand at the “Mölkky for All” booth, sharpening their skills and strategic thinking by throwing wooden sticks to keep score, while also learning more about the development of emerging sports in Hong Kong. To cool down after the action, visitors joined the “Sports Therapy Workshop” hosted by THEi’s Department of Sport and Recreation. They experienced professional sports massage and stretching guidance to relieve muscle fatigue and learnt techniques for preventing sports injuries.

West Kowloon Cultural District is a pet-friendly space where people and pets can enjoy time together. The Fiesta featured booths for pets, including the “Pawfect Relaxation: Pet Massage Workshop” arranged by the Health and Life Sciences Discipline of IVE, where participants learnt massage skills to help improve pets’ blood circulation, relieve stress, and ease joint pain. Another highlight was the “Pet-Fun Zone”, prepared by students and teachers from Youth College, where they taught dog training and first aid techniques. These activities allowed dog lovers to bring their pets along and enjoy a fun-filled day.

From day to night, the Fiesta concluded with a spectacular outdoor light show staged by students and teachers from HKIIT. A dazzling interplay of lights and fireworks lit up the West Kowloon Cultural District, delivering a spectacular evening experience and bringing the Fiesta to a perfect close.
