VTC Cha Kwo Ling New Campus Development Project Wins International Architecture Award 2026
Showcasing VTC’s Forward-looking Vision for VPET

The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has once again received high acclaim from the international architectural community. VTC’s new campus at Cha Kwo Ling, the campus development project, has won the International Architecture Award 2026 under the Schools and Universities category. This honour not only reflects the international architectural community's recognition of VTC’s innovative approach to campus planning and educational facility design but also underscores its commitment to developing future-ready learning environments that support the continued advancement of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) and respond to the evolving needs of industry and society.

Organised by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd., The International Architecture Awards (IAA) are among the most influential distinctions in the global architectural arena. The IAA honour outstanding new buildings, landscape architecture and urban planning projects by leading architects, landscape architects and urban planners around the world, recognising excellence in design, innovation and cultural significance.

The design of the new campus at Cha Kwo Ling was previously awarded the Gold Award at the internationally renowned Global Future Design Awards 2025 under the Educational Architecture (Concept) category. Its latest achievement at the IAA further affirms the project’s attainment of international standing in architectural design, campus planning and innovation in teaching and learning spaces. VTC is greatly encouraged by the award, which recognises the professional achievements of the project team and further enhances the international profile of Hong Kong’s VPET development. 

Innovative Planning Vision for a Future-ready Campus

The VTC Cha Kwo Ling new campus development project embodies VTC’s vision for the continued advancement of VPET. Through innovative campus planning and educational facility design, the project responds to the evolving needs of education and industry development. It embraces a spirit of inclusivity, diversity, and boundless opportunity, expressed through the philosophical concept of "the sea embraces all rivers." This vision is realised through the “Blossom Ensemble” landscape theme, featuring a diverse palette of flowering plants that brings seasonal colour and visual interest to the campus, together with the “Wide Sea and Vast Sky” interior design concept. These elements symbolise the diversity of VPET education and the multifaceted talents and potential of its students.

The design incorporates a new campus spatial planning principle - the “Future and Flexible Inter-disciplinary Campus” (FFIC). It also employs PEST (political, economic, social and technological) analysis as a planning tool to assess and explore potential opportunities for spatial planning and design layout from political, economic, social and technological perspectives. This approach infuses the campus with flexibility and forward-looking vision, while enhancing overall campus synergy. The campus consists of two building blocks – East Block and West Block – connected by an elevated landscape deck. Designed in white wavy expression to simulate a water splash, the elevated deck links to the 1/F outdoor landscape area at campus, enhancing connectivity to the promenade.

Showcasing Hong Kong’s VPET Development on the World Stage

As an award-winning project of The International Architecture Awards 2026, VTC’s new campus development project at Cha Kwo Ling will be featured in the award exhibition, "The City and the World", to be held at The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in Athens, Greece from 18 September to 18 October 2026. The exhibition will showcase Hong Kong’s innovative achievements and forward-looking vision in VPET campus development to the international architectural and education communities, as well as the general public.

VTC will continue to advance campus development and enhance its facilities, creating learning environments that respond to industry needs, support Hong Kong in nurturing talent, and contribute to sustainable social and economic development.
