    The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Charitable Foundation (HKCECF), the charity arm of the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association (HKCEA), together with the China Development Bank (CDB) Hong Kong Branch, has made donations for the fourth consecutive year to Vocational Training Council (VTC) in support of Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) talent development. The cumulative total donation has reached HK$2.5 million, including this year’s HK$500,000 contribution to support Hong Kong competitors in preparing for and participating in the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China in 2026, fostering the development of VPET in Hong Kong.

    The Cheque Presentation Ceremony was held yesterday (13 January) at the VTC Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre. XU Wei, Director (Local Affairs Department) of HKCEA, LIU Wensheng, Vice President of CDB Hong Kong Branch, and Donald TONG, VTC Executive Director, officiated at the ceremony.

    In the address, Mr LIU, Vice President of CDB Hong Kong Branch, stated that as the sole branch of CDB located outside Chinese Mainland. Under the guidance and support of CDB Head Office and HKCEA, the Hong Kong Branch has actively contributed to the economic development, strategic planning, and public welfare initiatives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Since last year, the Hong Kong Branch has continued to collaborate with VTC to support the Hong Kong team in preparing for and participating in the WorldSkills Competition. This effort aims to enhance young people’s professional competencies and global perspectives, integrate them into the broader context of national development, promote VPET in Hong Kong and nurture outstanding talent across various industries thereby helping to establish Hong Kong as a leading hub for skilled professionals. Mr LIU expressed his hope that the Hong Kong team will achieve excellent results in the upcoming competition, bringing pride to both Hong Kong and the nation.

    Mr TONG, VTC Executive Director, said that the WorldSkills Competition, hailed as the “Skills Olympics,” is the largest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world. It brings together young competitors from across the globe to showcase their talents and promote the development of professional skills. In preparation for the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Shanghai this September, the WorldSkills Hong Kong Competition was organised last year. The outstanding winners are undergoing additional training and assessments with the goal of representing Hong Kong at the WorldSkills Competition and bringing honour to Hong Kong. VTC will continue to work closely with the Government and industry to promote the alignment of skills standards and facilitate talent exchange, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Hong Kong’s skilled professionals.
