    The Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) represents a significant milestone in life for Hong Kong's young people. To assist DSE candidates in planning their further study pathways, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) will host a VTC Programme Selection Info Day on Saturday 11 May. The event will take place at the adjacent campuses of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Lee Wai Lee, member institutions of VTC. Secondary 6 students and their parents will be able to learn about the latest options and strategies for pursuing further studies, as well as VTC’s diversified range of programmes leading to qualifications at different levels including Bachelor Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, and Diploma of Vocational Education.  

    Highlights include an Admission Talk to be given by VTC’s Senior Assistant Executive Director Raymond KWOK, who will explain the latest admission information and progression pathways, analyse recent admission statistics and programme selection strategies, and provide insights into the career prospects associated with VTC’s programmes. In addition, a Parents’ Talk will be held, at which the Senior Hotline Counsellor for Hok Yau Club’s Student Guidance Centre, Missy SIU, will dissect the various post-DSE study pathways and give parents advice on effective communication methods to assist children in managing their stress when the DSE results are released. 

    Information booths will be set up to address enquiries, provide one-stop details of curricula, application procedures and admission requirements for the various VTC programmes, showcasing the diversified progression pathways they offer. Talks will also be given on a number of specific disciplines or programmes. These include applied science-oriented degree programmes offered by the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), Higher Diploma programmes covering seven academic disciplines, and one-year Diploma programmes offered by IVE, HKDI, the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and the International Culinary Institute (ICI). Teachers from various disciplines will be on hand to provide students with detailed information on curricula, progression pathways and career prospects. Aspiring VTC students will have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of some 140 Higher Diploma, Diploma and Degree programmes on offer.

    The event will also feature demonstrations of teaching and learning, as well as experimental activities, offering visitors a glimpse of VTC’s vibrant interactive learning experience. For instance, the Health and Life Sciences Discipline will provide a demonstration of the “SMART Makeup Mirror”, allowing participants to try on different make-up looks in real-time using Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Another attraction will be a Pet First-aid Demonstration where visitors can learn more about the causes and treatment of common pet diseases and the basic principles of first aid.

    Through the “Aviation Safety on Freighter Operations – VR Training Experience” provided by the Business Discipline, participants can learn practical skills related to operating aircraft cargo loading systems in a simulated logistics industry environment. “A Skills Showcase on Empowering Students in Live Commerce” will assist participants in understanding the most popular marketing and promotion models and techniques. The Childcare, Elderly, and Community Services Discipline will utilise a range of games to let participants experience the physical challenges faced by the elderly and learn how to communicate more effectively with them. Additionally, visitors will be able to play sensory games to understand the stories behind each child with special education needs. The Engineering Discipline will showcase a solar car invented by teachers and students, allowing participants to explore energy conversion technology. On a lighter note, visitors can try brewing a cup of coffee for themselves at the "5-min Barista" demonstration offered by the Hospitality Discipline.

    HKDI will offer "Up-cycling Denim Rose Workshop" and "Catch Your Dream" experimental activities, enabling participants to create unique fashion accessories on their own. Visitors can also enjoy fun and interactive games developed by the HKIIT, such as AR fuelled games, “Burger Builder” and “Chicken or the Egg?” 

    THEi will also offer various experimental activities, including “3D Draping”, in which participants can play fashion designers to create a unique fashion image using recycled fabric. “Fitness Test Activities” will give participants useful data on their upper body strength and muscle development. 

    In addition, a variety of innovative projects and solutions showcasing the professional knowledge and creativity of VTC students and graduates will be exhibited, highlighting their expertise and innovative thinking.

    In academic year 2024/25, some 140 full-time programmes tailored for Secondary 6 students will be offered, providing an extensive range of progression pathways. These include Bachelor Degree programmes at THEi; Higher Diploma programmes at IVE, HKDI, HKIIT, the Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and ICI; Diploma of Foundation Studies at IVE; and Diploma of Vocational Education at Youth College. Separately, the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), CCI and ICI will offer Diploma programmes for young people who aspire to enter the relevant sectors. 

    Secondary 6 students are welcome to apply for VTC’s Bachelor Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and other programmes online. Applicants who apply on or before 13 May will receive conditional offer(s)# in early June, standing themselves in good stead to gain entry to their preferred programmes.
