Mr Tony TAI Chark-tong was conferred the VTC Honorary Fellowship by Secretary for Justice, The Hon Paul Lam Ting-kwok, GBS, SC, JP

Mr Tony TAI is a seasoned Information Technology (IT) leader who has rendered more than a decade of dedicated service to the VTC, championing the nurturing of digital talent and strengthening VPET. He has provided valuable advice to the Government on human resources planning and talent development. He also advocated for the formulation of the “Hong Kong Electronic Commerce Roadmap”, providing strategic guidance for enterprise digitalisation. In 2022, he was appointed JP in recognition of his contributions to society.

Mr Tai’s contributions to VPET and the VTC are profound. During his tenure as the Chairperson of VTC Innovation and Technology Training Board (ITTB), he shared his professional insights on programme development. Having served as Member and Deputy Chairman of the VTC Council, he subsequently assumed the Chairmanship from 2020 to 2025, during which he steered VTC through unprecedented challenges and opportunities with vision, further strengthening Hong Kong’s VPET ecosystem.

Under his leadership, VTC actively advanced the development of THEi towards becoming a University of Applied Sciences (UAS). He also spearheaded the development of the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT), the city’s first dedicated tertiary institute for grooming IT talent, and led VTC in the implementation of Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS), thereby enriching the local VPET talent pool.

Mr Tai has been instrumental in expanding VTC’s international and regional network. He strengthened collaborations with industry partners to create additional learning opportunities for students and to support smart city development. In addition to forging new agreements with Chinese Mainland and non-local partner institutions to enrich VTC’s VPET portfolio with global perspectives, he oversaw the establishment of Vocational and Professional Education Services (Shenzhen) Limited (VPES), VTC’s first Chinese Mainland operation centre in Shenzhen, to further strengthen collaboration in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and enhance VTC’s regional presence.

Mr Tai has played a pivotal role in the development of new VTC campuses/sites and teaching and learning facilities, significantly strengthening the quality of VPET. In addition, he has strengthened student development by championing the application of VPET knowledge and skills to serve the community. Students contribute to society through projects with social value, while deepening the public’s understanding and recognition of VPET.
