Ms. LENGWA Maureen Angela Exeja - HSBC Speak for Success Programme Beneficiary
Entering my second year with the HSBC Speak for Success Programme, I have transformed from an ethnic minority student struggling to fit in into someone who uses my unique background to connect others. Growing up in a Filipino family, I initially felt isolated by language and cultural differences, finding it difficult to express myself among Cantonese-speaking classmates. Through diverse workshops and networking events, I learned to leverage my unique perspective and English proficiency as strengths rather than obstacles.
Encouraged by HSBC volunteers, especially those from multicultural backgrounds, I began sharing my family traditions at school, fostering an inclusive atmosphere. My collaboration in the Health Ambassador Programme earned me a Merit Award, boosting my confidence to engage socially. At the Joint Campus Cultural Night, my story deeply resonated with my peers, strengthening our mutual understanding.
The programme not only improved my communication skills but also inspired me to become more actively involved in student events. I am now dedicated to promoting cross‑cultural inclusion, turning barriers into bridges for meaningful relationships within the community.
