The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) is a significant challenge for students, and parental support is essential. The Vocational Training Council (VTC) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) will co-host a two-talk Parents’ Programme in February and March, covering the diverse progression pathways for students and effective parent-child communication skills. These talks aim to provide students and parents with more information about the wide range of study options after the DSE, empower parents to support their children's aspirations, and foster a harmonious parent-child relationship.

Students might feel lost and uncertain when making decisions about further studies. By pursuing their own interests, they would be able to find the most suitable academic and career path for themselves. The first talk, themed “DSE Smart Tips”, is scheduled for 22 February (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) (Haking Wong). Joseph TSANG, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters, will share the latest information and data on further education, and answer questions from students and parents on-site. Jerry KWOK, VTC Senior Assistant Executive Director, will elaborate on VTC's seamless and diversified articulation pathways, alongside key admission information. VTC graduates will also share their experiences and insights on selecting study programmes after DSE. Following the talk, participants can enjoy a campus tour of IVE's advanced teaching facilities and interactive learning environments, including the IoT Technology Centre, Wine and Beverage Laboratory and Retail Lab.

The second talk, titled “How to Unleash Your Child's Potential”, is scheduled for 8 March (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). Jasmine CHOI, an expert in Applied Positive Psychology, will share with parents practical tips on adjusting values and expectations and embracing children's own thoughts and choices with an open mindset, while establishing effective parent-child communication based on the principles of positive education. The seminar will be followed by a campus tour, showcasing HKDI’s advanced teaching facilities, including the V-sion Space, Media Lab, and V Music Library.

The Parents’ Programme 2025 is free of charge. Parents, students, and interested parties are welcome to register online at http://www.vtc.edu.hk/cpro/talk or call 2836 1888 for enquiries.
