The Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Charitable Foundation (HKCECF), charity arm of the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association (HKCEA), and the China Development Bank (CDB) Hong Kong Branch donated HK$400,000 to Vocational Training Council (VTC) to support the Hong Kong competitors in preparing and taking part in the 47th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Lyon, France this year and to promote the development of vocational and professional education and training (VPET). The Cheque Presentation Ceremony was held last Friday, 29 December in the Innovation and Technology Co-creation Centre at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Morrison Hill campus.

Mr YU Xiao, President of HKCEA, Mr LI Xiguang, Chief Executive of CDB Hong Kong Branch and Mr Donald TONG, VTC Executive Director officiated at the Ceremony.

Mr LI, Chief Executive of CDB Hong Kong Branch said, as the only CDB’s branch beyond Mainland China, Hong Kong Branch had always adhered to the mission of “supporting national development and delivering a better life for the people”, actively serving the economic and social development of Hong Kong and earnestly addressing people’s concerns and difficulties in daily life. This year, with the support and guidance of the Head Office and HKCEA, CDB Hong Kong Branch hoped to contribute to the development of VPET in Hong Kong through VTC, so as to provide more outstanding talents to various industries. In the future, CDB Hong Kong Branch would effectively respond to President XI Jinping’s ardent expectations for Hong Kong youth, helping them improve their professional capabilities, and helping Hong Kong better integrate into the national development.

Mr TONG, VTC Executive Director expressed gratitude to HKCEA and CDB for their staunch support in promoting VPET and cultivating skilled talents for society. Through their support, more young people would recognise the value of professional skills and choose the VPET path to enhance their professional knowledge and skills, opening doors to broader opportunities in the new era. He also stated that the WorldSkills Competition aims at raising awareness of vocational and professional education and training and skills training in the international community. The VTC will continue to support the Government in implementing various VPET initiatives, and to maintain close partnerships with industry partners to provide young people with high-quality VPET programmes and skills training.
