Around 1,400 Outstanding VTC Students Awarded Government Scholarships in the 2023/24 Academic Year

The HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund (GSF) and the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund (SPEF) Joint Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2024 was held on 25 April 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Representatives from the VTC and awardee representatives were invited by the Education Bureau to attend the Ceremony. The Funds offered a range of scholarships and awards to recognize exceptional students. In the 2023/24 academic year, scholarships and awards, amounting to about $180 million were granted benefiting over 6,000 outstanding students, including around 1,400 students from the Vocational Training Council (VTC).
CHAN Hoi-pak, Paco was one of the Talent Development Scholarship awardees in the 2023/24 academic year. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management with a specialisation in Sports Therapy at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi). Paco represented Hong Kong in the football event at the Hangzhou 19th Asian Games and currently plays for a club in the Hong Kong Premier League. Paco shared with the media how THEi and his club supported him in overcoming the challenges of his simultaneous pursuit of education and sports. By applying professional knowledge and theories acquired in the classroom, he witnessed an improvement in his sports performance. Paco believed that a bachelor’s degree provides retired athletes with a sense of security. He aspired to become a sports therapist and support athletes in injury prevention and management after his future retirement from sports.
The scholarships and awards under the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund include Scholarships for Outstanding Performance, Talent Development Scholarship, Reaching Out Award and Endeavour Merit Award. The Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) was established under the SPEF to promote the quality and sustainable development of the self-financing post-secondary sector in Hong Kong. It offers Outstanding Performance Scholarship, Best Progress Award, Talent Development Scholarship, Reaching Out Award and Endeavour Scholarship.
