With the generous support of Dr Roy CHUNG, the Bright Future Charitable Foundation – STEM in PE Design Competition (“Competition”) was established in 2022 to foster STEM application and physical education in secondary and primary schools while promoting Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) and VTC programmes to students. After a year-round programme of training, workshops and sports data collection, the final pitches of the Competition were held on 23 and 24 June 2023 respectively at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education’s (IVE) Chai Wan Campus.

The Competition attracted about 100 students from 22 school teams. After six training workshops and screening of competition proposals, twelve (12) shortlisted finalists (six secondary school teams and six primary school teams) were selected to present their innovative projects and showcase their applications to the judging panel in the two final pitches. We are pleased to congratulate Ying Wa College, the winner of the secondary school category with their project “Smart Boxing System” which aims to arouse students’ interest in boxing by a pose detection system with interactive devices, enabling boxing in a safe and enjoyable way. The winner of the primary school category was Ho Shun Primary School (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen), with their project “Smart Coaches for All x Immersive Teaching for Healthy Spinal”. This game tracks students’ movements and analyses the accuracy of movements, promoting and improving students’ spinal health.

The programme has not only enabled students to develop STEM skills, but also inspired them to unleash their creative potential and experience the fun of combining technology with physical education.
