In the run-up to the release of the results of this year’s Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE), the Vocational Training Council (VTC) will partner with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) to hold the 2019 Symposium and Workshop for DSE Graduates on the afternoon of Saturday 29 June at the Hong Kong Productivity Council. Graduates of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), a VTC member institution, will share their start-up and workplace experiences at the event. Career advisory workshops and mock interviews for the VTC Central Admission Scheme will also be organised to help candidates and parents grasp the latest information on academic progression and of the job market.

At the Symposium, two IVE graduates and an education advisor will give DSE candidates career development advice and useful pointers on further studies. Post-90s Eric KUO Wai-keung, an IVE Engineering higher diploma graduate and co-founder of a tech firm, is one of the speakers. Eric acquired the practical knowledge on computing, and electronic and communications engineering while studying at IVE and was later admitted into a local university. There, he successfully developed a brand new smart system that added loss prevention and burglary-proof functions to portable devices, which have been adopted by some multi-national brands. Eric subsequently founded a portable smart device brand which possesses a dozen patents. At the Symposium, Eric will talk about the journey from ideas to starting up and give suggestions to the young people on their career progression.

With the rapid development of information technology, every sector and profession becomes increasingly digitalised. Another speaker Jason WONG Tsz-yeung, an IVE Business Administration higher diploma graduate and a Platform Director of a global media agency, will speak about professional workplace experiences in digital advertising and big data analytics.

VTC Senior Assistant Executive Director (Academic Services) Gladys YAM will give details of the VTC Central Admission Scheme, and share the latest information and figures on further studies to assist potential candidates in applying for the programmes of their choice.

In the Parents’ Talk, representative of HKFYG Media Counselling Centre Cecilia NG Kam-kuen will outline the latest data on DSE results and provide professional counselling advice for parents to help their children to cope with stress coming from the release of the DSE results.

Mock interviews for the VTC Central Admission Scheme and programme info booths will also be organised to help potential candidates get familiar with the admission procedures on the results release day. Career advisory workshops will be available for candidates to take aptitude tests so as to better understand themselves for planning future studies and careers. All Secondary 6 students and parents are welcome to join. Seats for the Symposium will be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Registration website: www.vtc.edu.hk/ero/dse2019
