Providing diversified progression pathways, the Vocational Training Council (VTC) will offer over 140 full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies (DFS), Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) and Diploma programmes in Academic Year 2022/23, covering about 14,000 study places. Tailored for Secondary 6 students, the programmes are open to online applications from 18 November 2021 (Thursday) to 28 February 2022 (Monday).
In Academic Year 2022/23, VTC member institutions including the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and the International Culinary Institute (ICI) will offer around 100 Higher Diploma programmes. In line with industry development, the VTC will offer various new programmes, namely Higher Diploma in Arts Technology, Higher Diploma in Environmental Protection (Subject Group), Higher Diploma in Geospatial Science and Land Surveying and Higher Diploma in Business (E-commerce), to groom digitally ready and professionally competent skilled talent.
The integration of arts and technology is the latest trend in creative industries. The new Higher Diploma in Arts Technology programme teaches knowledge and skills in digital entertainment production aided by real-time visual effects. Covering know-how in virtual production and production of shows and stage performances, the Higher Diploma programme also teaches technology applications like extended reality (XR), virtual Idol production and real-time interactive visual effect.
In response to the rising importance of environmental protection around the world, the Health and Life Sciences Discipline collaborate with the Engineering Discipline to offer the Higher Diploma in Environmental Protection (Subject Group) programme. Students will first be taught essential knowledge like carbon audit and environmental analysis, and will then choose to progress to either the Environmental Protection and Management or the Environmental Engineering programme, based on their interests and aspirations.
To support the low-carbon smart city development, it is of particular importance to promote the use of smart energy. To cater for the development and manpower demand of the power supply industry, the CLP Power Engineering Laboratory at IVE (Haking Wong) Campus was established this year to nurture the next generation of power engineering talent. With CLP Power Hong Kong Limited’s support, the Lab is furnished with advanced smart grid and high voltage training facilities that help electrical engineering students grasp the professional knowledge and applied technology most sought after by the industry.
The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) will offer a range of vocationally-oriented degree programmes including programmes under the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions /Sectors (SSSDP) of the HKSAR Government, covering areas such as fashion design, product design, landscape architecture, horticulture, arboriculture and landscape management, culinary arts and management, sports and recreation management, civil engineering and surveying. Eligible local students under the SSSDP will be entitled to subsidies amounting to HK$44,240 or HK$77,040 per annum. Students can apply via the JUPAS website on or before 8 December 2021. Students who pursue other vocationally oriented self-financing programmes and who are eligible to apply for the Non-means tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong (NMTSS) will be entitled to an annual non-means tested subsidy amounting to HK$33,100*.
To cater to the different aspirations and progression needs of Secondary 6 students, the VTC will also provide more than 30 government-subvented diploma programmes, including eight DFS programmes that cover different professional streams. The HKSAR Government has accepted the VTC DFS as a qualification in application for positions in the civil service that require five HKDSE subjects at Level 2, including English Language and Chinese Language, as an entry requirement.
In parallel, the Youth College offers a diversity of DVE programmes to provide seamless and flexible progression pathways for students and equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to pave the way for future success in their studies and career. The Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI) / Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) / ICI will also provide various employment focused diploma programmes. (General entrance requirements of respective programmes are listed at Annex 1).
Students are invited to submit applications through the VTC S6 Admissions Portal (www.vtc.edu.hk/admission) for programmes of the various VTC member institutions (Annex 2). Programme choices should be specified when making applications.
Separately, VTC member institutions, IVE, HKDI, ICI and THEi will host the Info Days on 19 and 20 November 2021 (Friday and Saturday). Secondary 6 students preparing for the HKDSE and parents can stay tuned to the online talks on admission, disciplines and programmes and join the interactive Q&A sessions to receive more VTC study information. Students and parents can also explore the innovative and interactive teaching and learning facilities through the 360° virtual tours of campus facilities available on the Info Day website.
