Announcement of New Directorate Appointment

Mr Donald TONG, GBS

Mr TONG Chi-keung, Donald was appointed as Executive Director to lead the Vocational Training Council (VTC) in advancing vocational and professional education and training (VPET), furthering the strategic development of the VTC, as well as maintaining close networks and collaborative partnerships with stakeholders in the Mainland and overseas countries.
 
Mr Tong was an Administrative Officer with the Government.  He has rich experience in public administration and management with a vision and passion for the grooming of the younger generation. 

Prior to joining the VTC, he served in various Government bureaux and departments for over 30 years, including the Transport Department, the former Trade and Industry Branch, the former City and New Territories Administration, the former New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices in Washington and in Toronto, the former Environment and Food Bureau, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Home Affairs Bureau. He was Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, USA, from 2008 to 2014, Commissioner for Labour from 2014 to 2016, Permanent Secretary for the Environment / Director of Environmental Protection from 2016 to 2019, and Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing) / Director of Housing from 2019 to 2020.
 
Mr Tong has a thorough understanding of the development of commerce and industry sectors.  He will lead the VTC to achieve its mission by advancing VPET and grooming knowledgeable and skilled talent to help support the development of Hong Kong.
