The Vocational Training Council (VTC) will host a VTC Programme Selection Info Day on 20 May (Saturday) to assist candidates of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) in planning their progression pathways. Secondary 6 students and parents will be able to gain information on VTC’s diversified programme options leading to awards at different levels including Bachelor Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma of Applied Education, as well as obtain the latest statistics on pursuing further studies and programme strategies.
The Info Day will take place on the adjacent campuses of the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) Lee Wai Lee, both VTC member institutions. Highlights include a Programme Selection Talk to be given by VTC’s Senior Assistant Executive Director Raymond KWOK, who will analyse the latest admission statistics and most popular programmes, and explain the progression pathways and career prospects of VTC’s programmes. In addition, a Parents’ Talk will be held, at which Hok Yau Club’s Student Guidance Consultant NG Po-shing will explain the various post-DSE study pathways and give parents advice on helping their children cope with pressure when the DSE results are released.
A series of discipline/programme talks will also be featured, with teachers from different disciplines providing students and parents with first-hand information on the curricula, entrance requirements and professional development prospects offered by VTC programmes. Visitors will be introduced to the VTC Earn & Learn Scheme, which integrates structured vocational education and on-the-job training allowing apprentices to earn a stable income and enjoy incentive allowances. In another talk, details of student financial aid and scholarships offered by VTC will be shared with participants.
Information booths will be set up to provide one-stop details of curricula, application procedures and admission requirements for the various VTC programmes and the diversified progression pathways they offer from diploma to degree. Demonstrations of classroom technology and experimental activities will also be provided, giving visitors a taste of the vibrant interactive learning experience enjoyed by VTC students – specifically advertising photography workshops offered by the Design Discipline, and a virtual reality (VR) teaching and training facility invented by the Business Discipline which provides a lifelike environment to help students familiarise themselves with different air cargo operations. In addition, a number of innovative projects and solutions demonstrating the professional knowledge and creativity of VTC students and graduates will be exhibited, including a smart driver monitoring system developed by the graduates of Information Technology Discipline.
