In academic year 2023/24, the VTC will provide a wide range of full-time Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma of Foundation Studies, Diploma of Vocational Education and Diploma programmes tailored for Secondary 6 students, leading to diversified and flexible progression pathways for HKDSE candidates.

Among the Higher Diploma programmes, over 90 are being offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and International Culinary Institute (ICI), and most of them are subvented. To keep pace with societal and industry developments, and nurture talent with professional knowledge and new skills, VTC will provide several new programmes including a Higher Diploma in Music Production in academic year 2023/24.

In recent years, the community’s growing interests in locally-created music and soundtracks has boosted demand for talent in the music production field. At the same time, technological advancements have encouraged creators to publish their works through new channels such as the internet and social media, attracting more young people to join this industry. The HKDI is therefore launching its Higher Diploma in Music Production programme with an emphasis on teaching students the knowledge and skills required for music composition, arrangement, mixing and producing, while focusing on the four most popular music genres in Hong Kong, namely slow ballad, band sound, electronic dance music and rhythm and blues (R&B). Students will learn not only the professional techniques of recording and mixing using major types of software in the industry, but also music theory and rationale for music composition and arrangement, taking their creation to another level.

To cater for the different aspirations and progression needs of Secondary 6 students, the VTC will also offer over 30 subvented diploma programmes. IVE will provide eight Diploma of Foundation Studies as equivalents to five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 (including Chinese Language and English Language). Graduates are eligible to apply for related positions in the civil service. Meanwhile, Youth College will offer 17 Diploma of Vocational Education programmes, covering the study areas of Business and Services, Engineering, and Design and Information Technology, to provide students with seamless and flexible progression pathways and equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to pave the way for future success in their studies and career.

The Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI) and ICI will also provide six employment-focused diploma programmes to help students join the respective professions. The School of Business and Information Systems (SBI) will provide a Diploma of Applied Education programme that covers a wide range of study areas with an emphasis on practical and vocational skills, cultivating students' practical and innovative capabilities, and helping them keep pace with the requirements of the modern workplace.

Meanwhile, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) will offer a number of vocationally-oriented degree programmes, including those covered by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). Interested students can apply for the SSSDP degree programmes through the Joint University Programme Admissions System. Eligible students will be entitled to an annual subsidy of HK$44,950 or HK$78,280. Students can also apply for THEi self-financing degree programmes in such subjects as Food Science and Safety, Chinese Medicinal Pharmacy, Nutrition and Healthcare Management through the VTC Admissions Homepage or the Portal. Eligible students who apply for the Government’s Non-means-tested Subsidy Scheme for Self-financing Undergraduate Studies in Hong Kong will be entitled to an annual subsidy amounting to HK$33,740.
