Bracing for Greater Bay Area developments

Since 2015, The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce has sponsored VTC students to attend internship and exchange programmes on the Mainland, in the hope that they could take advantage of these opportunities to uplift their knowledge and skills, while deepening their understanding of the Mainland’s developments in culture, economics as well as business and commerce.

Hugo Lo, a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering student, was offered sponsorship by The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, for a one-month internship programme at Zhuguang Xincheng, a residential estate in Zhuhai. “Under the instructions of engineers there, I completed several tasks, including checking whether the steel reinforcing bars were compliant with the architectural drawings, using a rebound hammer to test concrete strength and performing concrete pouring work step by step. The experience would help my future work in engineering management.”

Greater Bay Area developments bring forth opportunities

Mr Raymond Fu, Teaching Fellow in the Department of Construction Technology and Engineering of Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi), said: “Besides gaining experiences, students could also learn about the working style and technical expertise related to engineering projects on the Mainland. These opportunities enable them to understand infrastructure development in the Greater Bay Area and prepare themselves well for the future.” On top of this, Hugo grasped the chance to visit places like Hengqin and Gongbei over the weekends. “There are ongoing developments all around Zhuhai and I have been most interested in its roads and urban planning. I hope I will be given the opportunities to participate in these projects.”
