Promoting life education through innovative technology

Innovation x Application Scheme 2.0, sponsored by the Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council Foundation, is aimed at unleashing students’ innovative talent and exploring the business potential of their ideas. Finalist teams will undergo a series of training in prototyping, drafting of business proposals and presentation skills. The champion team will be offered financial support to achieve its members’ start-up dreams.

“The son was sorting through his late father’s belongings and found a handwritten letter he left behind. Only then did it occur to him that his father had neglected him to focus on work in his younger days, for which he felt remorseful. Now, it was no longer possible for him to tell his father ‘I love you.’”

The above scenario is part of the “Time Traveller – Life Education x Escape Room” game. As a reminder for young people to show affection to their loved ones before it is too late, Higher Diploma in Social Services and Community Education students Lai Tsz Him, Queenie Leung, Heidi Tam and Erick Yau have sought to spread the life education message of cherishing one’s beloved through an experiential game.

Queenie said: “We are elated that our game concept has produced a resounding response and made it to the top three at Stanford Design Challenge Asia.

Heidi added: “The question is how we should put our plan into action and encourage more youths to take part.”

Tsz Him said: “We were fortunate to participate in the Innovation x Application Scheme 2.0. During the contest, we received plenty of valuable feedback and proper training, inspiring us to apply VR technology and virtualise the game scenarios. This has not only overcome the issues of venue capacity but also increased youth participation.”

Erick said: “We are now preparing to set up a social enterprise using the prize money of the competition, to spread the message to secondary school students to show concern and love towards their loved ones.”
