Unlocking leadership potential, identifying future path

Wofoo Foundation was founded by Dr Joseph Lee in 1997. Since the 2009/10 academic year, the foundation has started sponsoring the “Wofoo Leaders’ Network” promoted by VTC. The scheme is aimed at grooming youth leaders, promoting the concept of “responsible citizen” and building a harmonious, caring society. Moving forward in the three major directions of “leadership training”, “civic education” and “social services”, it seeks to raise the social concerns and sensitivity of tertiary students and help them cultivate a positive attitude by organising different events and study trips, in order to transform them into responsible citizens and leaders committed to building a harmonious society together.

When Joyce Kok was studying for a Diploma of Vocational Education, she was encouraged by her lecturer to join Wofoo Leaders’ Network (Wofoo). Upon progressing to a Higher Diploma programme, she continued active participation and the four-year experience at Wofoo benefitted her immensely.

Personal growth spurred by leaders’ network

While at Wofoo, Joyce undertook the roles of Secretary, External Vice-President and President successively. “Leading my fellow executive committee members to organise events has boosted up my leadership capabilities greatly. Both my communication skills and self-confidence are also strengthened from being an emcee for the events.” In the previous academic year, Joyce won the “Outstanding Leader Award” for a project she conceived with her fellow executive members - setting up an online “heart-to-heart chat channel” for students to discuss different topics and offer them moral support. Their work won the “Outstanding Project Award”, uplifting the morale of Joyce and her team enormously.

Navigating career direction

Once lacking a clear career vision, Joyce is grateful to have found her vocational interest from her event organisation experience. This has shaped the direction of her study and career plans. Having matriculated to a BSc (Hons) Events and Leisure Management programme, Joyce encourages her junior fellow students to take part in Wofoo Leaders’ Network, hone themselves and know themselves better.
