The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships - Vocational Education Scholarship Awardees Sharing Session 2024 was held on 28 August 2024 at the Happy Valley Stand, Happy Valley Racecourse. About 20 awardees who received local or overseas scholarships gathered to network and exchange insights about their developments. Ms Donna Tang, Executive Manager, Charities (Talent & Sector Development) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, shared uplifting stories of Jockey Club scholars and encouraged VTC awardees to unleash their potential and commit to striving for the betterment of Hong Kong society. The guest speaker Ms Erica Ma, Managing Partner of CoCoon Ignite Ventures, Co-founder of CoCoon and Co-founder of The CoCoon Foundation, shared a motivating approach to problem-solving through entrepreneurship. She also shared with our students how to build essential skills that are vital for their future success.
Two new awardees, who are about to embark on their journey studying degree programs abroad, also shared their study plans and aspirations. Ms Chris Cheng shared how the scholarship helped her realize her dreams, allowing her to study fashion design at her desired overseas university. She wishes to design a line of healthcare professional uniforms that are tailored to accommodate their demanding work schedules while also elevating their sense of professionalism. Mr Tom Cheng shared his passion and ambitions in the field of architecture. He aspires to pursue a career in architecture with a vision to design livable spaces tailored for the elderly and stray animals, aiming to alleviate emotional challenges faced by the elderly population. In the closing remarks, Ms Winnie Ngan, Director of the Institutional Advancement Office of VTC, expressed gratitude and thanked The Hong Kong Jockey Club for its invaluable contributions and generosity. She motivated students to enhance their skills and utilize them effectively to make meaningful contributions to the community.
Since 2016/17, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships have supported around 120 graduates from the Diploma of Vocational Education to pursue further studies at Higher Diploma, and 24 graduates of Higher Diploma to pursue further studies at overseas degree programmes in the fields of Aerospace, Marine, Environmental, Architecture, Design and Hospitality.
