Apart from student development programmes such as
IVElite and Wofoo Leaders’ Network which offer students
opportunities to enhance their learning ability and personal
attributes, two new programmes, “Speak for SUCCESS”
and “Road to Marathon”, were piloted in 2012 and 2013
respectively. Students engaged in the projects are exposed
to a wide variety of activities aimed at fostering essential
attributes including communication and presentation skills,
effective planning and self-management.
Qualifications Framework Development
Promoting lifelong learning is one of the missions of
the VTC. As a staunch supporter of the Qualifications
Framework (QF), which provides local workforce with a clear
pathway for the pursuit of lifelong learning, the VTC has
assisted in formulating the Specifications of Competency
Standards (SCS) for various industries since 2005. To
help practitioners obtain recognised qualifications that
are in line with SCS, a structured system of vocational
assessments for key trades was set up. In 2012/13, about
4,500 VTC students sat for the vocational assessments in
Safety, Health and Environment, Beauty Care Services and
Hairdressing.
As part of the support to the QF, the VTC also acts as the
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment agency to
assess the skills, knowledge and experience acquired by
individuals from eight industries: Printing and Publishing,
Watch and Clock, Hairdressing, Property Management,
Automotive, Jewellery, Logistics and Chinese Catering
industries. It is anticipated that the RPL services will be
extended to other industries, such as the Retail as well as
the Import and Export industries in 2014.
Quality Assurance and Programme Accreditation
The VTC is seeking accreditation with relevant academic
and professional bodies. The VTC has been holding the
Programme Area Accreditation status in 69 Programme
Areas up to QF Level 4. Three new degree programmes to
be offered by THEi in September 2013, namely, bachelor
degree programmes in Health Care, Landscape Architecture,
and Chinese Culinary Arts and Management, went through
Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and
Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) accreditation. Also, 13
new top-up degree programmes have been accredited by
HKCAAVQ during the year.
