Mr Simon WONG Ka-wo, BBS, JP was conferred the VTC Honorary Fellowship by Financial Secretary The Honourable Paul CHAN Mo-po, GBM, GBS, MH, JP at Graduation Ceremony 2018

Mr Simon WONG Ka-wo is Chairman of the Kampery Group, a company based in Hong Kong specialising in coffee, tea and wine. Business of Kampery covers manufacturing, retailing, wholesaling, as well as hospitality and tourism. Mr Wong is the owner of Château Le Cléret, a vineyard situated in Bergerac, France, once belonged to a French royal family with history of 300 years.
 

Mr Wong is currently President of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades, Chairman of the Chamber of Food & Beverage Industry of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Brand Development Council, Vice-President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association and Chairman of the Association of Coffee & Tea of Hong Kong. He has made great efforts in enhancing the industry status, particularly in advising the HKSAR Government in food safety matters, and bringing in innovative elements, including new technologies for productivity enhancement. He is an advocate of green and sustainable practices in the catering and business sectors, and is a frequent speaker on the topic.
 

Mr Wong’s contribution to the local food culture is widely recognised. Since 2009, he has been organising the annual renowned ‘International KamCha Competition’ which challenges students and professionals from around the world to compete for the championship of Hong Kong Milk Tea, which has been included in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong by the HKSAR Government since 2014.
 

After SARS, a pandemic deeply affecting the business of the catering industry, Mr Wong had set a record to promote local produce by organising the Pun-Choi MegaFest which was attended by 10,000 people in the old Kai Tak Airport in 2003.
 

Mr Wong previously served the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute Training Board as a Member (2005-2009). Since 2013, he has regularly invited VTC students to wine tours in France and internship programme in his vineyard and to practise in the hospitality and tourism sectors in his establishment in France. VTC students and staff have benefited a lot from his generosity and have experienced and learned the whole process of wine making technology and hotel and tourism management. Mr Wong also donated some of his collections to the VTC’s 35th Anniversary Tribute Dinner, and to The Dining Society training restaurants to enhance Food and Beverage services and training of students.
