Dr Stella KWAN Mun-yee has extensive experience in the tourism and retail industries. She has held senior management positions with major international corporations, including the MTR Corporation, Jardine Matheson and Swire Pacific, and helped to establish brands and businesses such as IKEA, Marathon Sports, Dymocks Booksellers, MTR Malls and Ngong Ping 360.
Dr Kwan was appointed the Managing Director of Ngong Ping 360 in 2014. Ngong Ping 360 has been recognised as one of the “Cable Cars: 10 Amazing Rides Around the World” by the Daily Telegraph in the UK in 2014, and amongst “10 of the World’s Most Amazing Cable Car Experiences” by CNN.com in the United States during 2015.
In addition to strengthening Ngong Ping 360’s position as the gateway to Lantau Island West and a must-see tourist attraction of Hong Kong, Dr Kwan has also undertaken a series of innovative ventures that synergise natural and cultural elements on Lantau Island into a fast-developing concept of “sensory tourism”, attracting visitors from around the world with different preferences and needs. Dr Kwan’s knowledge of the industry and her keen eye for marketing has allowed the company to contribute remarkably to Hong Kong’s tourism industry.
Dr Kwan also provides various public services. She is a Member of the Tourism Strategy Group under the Tourism Commission, a Committee Member of the Retail and Tourism Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, a Founding Director and currently Chairman of the Tourism Committee and Treasurer of the Lantau Development Alliance, an Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Advertisers Association and Junior Police Call Honorary President for Lantau District. In academia, Dr Kwan is serving as Specialist Assessor of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and an Executive Committee Member of the PolyU DBA Alumni Association; and had served as an Executive Committee Member of the Quality Assurance Committee for the Yi Jin Diploma Programme.
Dr Kwan has served on the VTC’s Retail Trade Training Board (RTTB) as member since 2008, Vice-Chairlady in 2013/14 and Chairlady since 2014. She is very committed to retail manpower training, and has been Convener of the Working Group on Manpower Survey of the RTTB since 2008, offering invaluable insights into and recommendations on the development of vocational training in the retail sector. Dr Kwan was appointed a member of the VTC’s Audit Committee in 2015.
