Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping, GBS, JP was conferred the VTC Honorary Fellowship by Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Professor K C CHAN, GBS, JP at Graduation Ceremony 2016

Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping co-founded Techtronic Industries Company Limited in 1985, and was Group Vice Chairman and Executive Director of the Company since 2007 until he retired in 2011. Dr Chung holds doctorate degrees from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, and City University of Macau. He was appointed as Industrial Professor by the University of Warwick in 2010, and awarded Honorary Doctorate degrees by the Lingnan University in 2015, by Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2007, and by the University of Newcastle (New South Wales, Australia) in 2006. Dr Chung is highly dedicated to the advancement of industry. He won the Hong Kong Young Industrialists Award in 1997, and Industrialist of the Year in 2014. He is Honorary President and formerly Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries.
 

Dr Chung’s contribution to Hong Kong spans across industries and functions. His chairmanships and memberships are seen in many public advisory bodies as well as non-government organisations, including Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Design Centre, Advisory Committee on Innovation and Technology of the Innovation and Technology Commission, Chamber of Hong Kong Listed Companies, MPF Schemes Advisory Committee, Social Welfare Advisory Committee, and HKSAR Trade and Industry Advisory Board, just to name a few.
 

Dr Chung has strong association with the academia. He is also concerned with community welfare and participates actively in voluntary and public services locally and abroad. He had served as Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Council, and is currently Chairman of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Court. In addition, Dr Chung has been Council Member of the University of Warwick, Chairman of the Faculty of Business Advisory Board at Lingnan University, Executive Committee Chairman of Outward Bound Hong Kong, Executive Committee Chairman of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club Association of Hong Kong, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Paediatric Foundation. He is also the founder of the Bright Future Charitable Foundation. Dr Chung was appointed as a Justice of Peace in 2005, and awarded with Gold Bauhinia Star in 2017 by the HKSAR Government.
 

Dr Chung’s dedication to the VTC is distinguished and whole-hearted. He was Deputy Chairman of the VTC from 2010 to 2015, and was Council Member since 2004, during which he served in various committees and led the establishment of a number of VTC member institutions, including the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi). Dr Chung’s contribution to vocational and professional education is multifaceted. He chaired the HKSAR Government’s Task Force on Promotion of Vocational Education, set up in 2014, whose entire suite of recommendations to raise public awareness of vocational and professional education was accepted by the HKSAR Government. He is also one of the main supporters who championed the flagship WorldSkills events, both in Hong Kong, the Mainland, and internationally. Over the years, students of VTC have benefited from Dr Chung’s generous donation via the Bright Future Charitable Foundation, which brought students to enviable expeditions like the Antarctica, Africa, the Amazon, just to name a few. In 2015, Dr Chung also established the Bright Future Charitable Foundation Scholarship to support outstanding VTC graduates to pursue further studies.
