Dr Henry STEINER was conferred the VTC Honorary Fellowship

Henry STEINER is an internationally acclaimed designer and is known as “the Father of Hong Kong Design”. Born in Vienna and raised in New York, he was educated at Yale and at the Sorbonne. He founded Steiner&Co. in 1964, which has become one of the world’s leading branding design consultancies. He is best known for designing the HSBC hexagon mark and several series of banknotes for Standard Chartered Bank. He has received numerous local and international design awards, and his works were well featured in many design exhibitions. Mr Steiner was named World Master by Japan’s Idea magazine and is one of Icograda’s Masters of the 20th Century. He received the Governor’s Award for Hong Kong Design in 1970.
 

Mr Steiner is past president of Alliance Graphique Internationale, Fellow of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Chartered Society of Designers and the Hong Kong Designers Association. He is an honorary member of Design Austria and a member of the New York Art Directors Club. In 2006, he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honour of the Republic of Austria for his design achievement and service to the Austrian community in Hong Kong.
 

He has spoken at many key events of the VTC, most notably, as a keynote speaker at the recent Design Dialogue: Hong Kong Culture 2013 hosted by the Hong Kong Design Institute. Since 1981, he has been Adviser to the former Lee Wai Lee Technical Institute.
 

He received the DFA Lifetime Achievement Award 2012 from the Hong Kong Design Centre. His published works include Cross-Cultural Design: Communicating in the Global Marketplace and Henry Steiner: Designer’s Life. He has served as judge and advisor to a variety of design competitions, and has been speaker at countless lectures on design and corporate identity. Mr Steiner was awarded honorary doctorate by the Hong Kong Baptist University, and is an honorary professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
