Entrance Requirements
Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language and Chinese Language; OR VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies; OR VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education; OR Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin; OR Equivalent.
Remarks :
  1. An "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively, and a maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose.
  2. A "Grade D or E" and a "Grade C or above" in an HKDSE Other Language subject (Category C subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2" and "Level 3" respectively, and one Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose.
  3. Applicable to holders of Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) (students admitted to DVE in AY2017/18 or before are required to complete prescribed further studies modules).
Programme Stream
Students may choose one of the following streams so as to enhance professional knowledge and skills in specific areas :
  • Higher Diploma in Occupational Safety and Emergency Operations (Occupational Health)
  • Higher Diploma in Occupational Safety and Emergency Operations (Incident Response)#
The 1st semester is a common semester. Students will progress to the stream in the 2nd semester. Students will be required to attend a test in Semester 1 to determine the studied stream, subject to their choice, test performance and availability of places in specific streams.
 
# Applicants who apply for incident response stream are required to swim 25m in a basic swimming assessment in semester 1 after admission.
Programme Aims
This programme aims to provide students with comprehensive coverage of trade specific knowledge and practical skills in the area of occupational safety and emergency operations. It helps students to develop professional competence and supervisory skills for occupational safety & health monitoring, accident investigation, risk assessment, first aid treatment, outdoor safety techniques, diving safety and so on. The programme is suitable for all secondary graduates who are planning to pursue a career and further study in safety science and operations.
 
This programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.
Career Prospects
Graduates can be employed as assistant safety officer or inspector in government departments (Labour Department, Housing Authority, etc.), public utilities, professional safety consultants firms, construction project management companies. Other opportunities include career development in emergency operations, such as ambulanceman in health services providers and risk control assistant, crisis management assistant in event management companies or hotels.
Articulation
This programme is developing articulation to top-up degree programmes offered by universities overseas. Graduates can also apply for admission to the related degree programmes of local universities.
Professional Recognition
The application for the recognition of Labour Department HKSAR as a Scheduled Qualification for Registered Safety Officer (RSO) is in progress as under the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors) Regulations. (Graduates are required to possess relevant work experience in order to apply for RSO)
