Professional Recognition
The programme is developed according to International Convention on Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) requirements, and has been duly approved by the Hong Kong Marine Department as a Qualified Seafarers Training Course.
This is also an approved training course included the Local Vessel Trade Training Incentive Scheme under the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF).

Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.
Entrance Requirements

- Completion of Secondary 3 or equivalent or above
- At least 16.5 years of age
- Residents of Hong Kong
- Applicants must pass the interview and simple eye sight and colour blindness tests
Articulation / Employment

Articulation
Having gained sufficient sea service experience, graduates may apply for examinations leading to Certificates of Competency, Class 3 Deck Officer (River Trade) or Local Vessel Coxswain Grade 3 and Local Vessel Engine Operator Grade 3.
Career Prospects
The Recruitment and Placement Officer of Institute will arrange registration and interviews for students. At present, majority of graduates serve on local tugs, bunker barge, harbour ferries, high-speed ferries running between Hong Kong and Macau or Mainland and also serve on superyachts. The rest of graduates work in maritime related sectors.
