Basic Information

The Programme aims to develop students’ competencies in social services provisions through a service-learning approach. In addition to vocational elements, this student-centered curriculum also covers generic elements including English, Chinese, Mathematics, Putonghua, and Information Technology, as well as interpersonal relationships and teamwork skills, that could fully prepare students for further studies and future career in related fields.

Professional Recognition

Graduates of Diploma of Foundation Studies - Community Services who attended the (optional) Mental Health First Aid Course and passed the required assessment could obtain “Mental Health First Aid Course Certificate” issued by The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong.

Remarks

Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.

Graduates of Diploma of Foundation Studies are eligible to apply for VTC’s Higher Diploma programmes, which normally require five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including Chinese Language and English Language.

Remarks

Diploma of Foundation Studies students may also consider taking the optional module 'Foundation Mathematics III' for the eligibility to apply for VTC's Higher Diploma programmes or related civil service jobs which require Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics as one of their entrance requirements. Separate tuition fee will be charged for this optional module.

Remarks

The study duration of Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes is normally 1 year. The tuition fee is payable in two installments.
In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay other fees, such as caution money and students’ union annual fees.
Some students may be required to study bridging modules or enhancement programmes to support their study; or to attend additional training, industrial attachments, public examinations for which separate fees will be charged.
Students of Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes may choose to take the optional module “Foundation Mathematics III” with a separate tuition fee.
Tuition fees are subject to annual review.

9th Golden Age Expo & Summit 2024

Students from the Diploma of Foundation Studies (Community Services) designed and showcased a project named "Digital Storytelling for the Elderly" in the 9th Golden Age Expo & Summit 2024. The Team won an outstanding award.
