Entrance Requirements
Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics; OR VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies with successful completion of Foundation Mathematics III; OR VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education with successful completion of Mathematics 3G; OR Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin with successful completion of Mathematics Plus; OR Equivalent.
Remarks :
  1. Holders of VTC Foundation Diploma (Level 3) / Diploma of Foundation Studies / VTC Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education / Yi Jin Diploma / Diploma Yi Jin without successful completion of the relevant optional Mathematics module, should possess HKDSE Mathematics at Level 2 or above.
  2. An "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively, and a maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose.
  3. A "Grade D or E" and a "Grade C or above" in an HKDSE Other Language subject (Category C subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2" and "Level 3" respectively, and one Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose.
  4. Holders of Diploma in Vocational Education / Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) award upon successful completion of prescribed modules are eligible to apply for Higher Diploma Programmes.
  5. During Year 1 of the programme, students are required to take a medical check at their own expense. Applicants should note that some marine-related employers may impose requirements on physical attributes such as good eye-sight.
Programme Aims
This programme provides students with professional maritime knowledge, practical skills for shipboard operations and training on practices in maritime industries for the purpose of preparing them to pursue further study and development in the seafaring career and marine-related sectors.
 
This programme is designed with an emphasis on generic and language training, whole-person development and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.
Career Prospects
Graduates can serve in the merchant navy as deck cadets. They may also find their job opportunities in ship management / agency companies, ferry companies, stevedoring / sea freight agents, dockyards, warehousing / container terminals, fuel / inventory supply companies, marine consultancy companies, Marine Department or disciplinary forces of HKSAR, etc. Subject to the continuing implementation of Sea-going Training Incentive Scheme by the Government, graduates undergoing their cadet training aboard ocean-going vessels are eligible to receive training incentives from the Government. Articulation
Graduates can apply for admission to the following programme :
BSc (Hons) Marine Operations Management offered by The Southampton Solent University, UK.
Professional Recognition
Graduates will be granted a remission of sea service by the Marine Department of Hong Kong SAR when appearing for the examination leading to the issue of Class 3 Deck Officer Certificate of Competency, Sea-going or River Trade.
