Basic Information

The programme aims at developing students through a balanced curriculum composing of both generic and vocational knowledge and skills with competencies in relevant trade so as to enhance their opportunities for employment and/or further studies. The Electronic and Computer Engineering programme covers fundamental knowledge and practical skills required in electronics, computer and digital systems as well as the telecommunications and surveillance industry. Graduates may choose to seek employment or further their studies.

Remarks

Normally 3 semesters during one academic year, depending on students’ study progress and academic results.
For some modules of the programme, the medium of instruction and assessments is Chinese.
Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.

Holders of Diploma of Vocational Education (students admitted to DVE in AY2017/18 or before are required to complete prescribed further studies modules) are considered having met the general entrance requirements of Higher Diploma programmes (not applicable to programmes with specific entrance requirements). Please refer to the details of Higher Diploma programmes in this homepage.

Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed as technician apprentices, engineering assistant, customer service assistant, technical salesman, or merchandising assistant. Graduates may work in the areas of computer systems and equipment, firmware products and automated systems, healthcare electronics, office and home automation, mobile communications and internet systems, environmental lighting systems, intelligent domestic surveillance systems.

Remarks

DVE students who have not obtained Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics may consider taking the elective module “Mathematics 3E: Mathematics for Further Studies” for the eligibility to apply for VTC’s Higher Diploma programmes which require Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics as one of their entrance requirements.

Remarks

The study duration of Diploma of Vocational Education programmes is normally 1 year. The tuition fee is payable in two installments.
In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay other fees, such as caution money and students’ union annual fees.
Some students may be required to study bridging modules or enhancement programmes to support their study; or to attend additional training, industrial attachments, public examinations for which separate fees will be charged.
Tuition fees are subject to annual review.
