Basic Information

The programme aims at helping students to enhance their opportunities for employment and/or further studies, through a balanced curriculum with generic and vocational knowledge and skills, and structured whole person development competencies in a specific trade. The Automotive Technology programme covers mainly the basic principles of vehicle systems and servicing skills. Graduates may choose to seek employment or further their studies.

Professional Recognition

Graduates who are employed and registered as apprentices in the relevant trades could be exempted part of the training required. The duration of apprenticeship could thus be shortened, normally up to a maximum of 12 months.

Remarks

Normally 3 semesters during one academic year, depending on students’ study progress and academic results.
For some modules of the programme, the medium of instruction and assessments is Chinese.
Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.
Certain positions within the industry require specific color vision capabilities.

Articulation

Holders of Diploma of Vocational Education (students admitted to DVE in AY2017/18 or before are required to complete prescribed further studies modules) are considered having met the general entrance requirements of Higher Diploma programmes (not applicable to programmes with specific entrance requirements). Please refer to the details of Higher Diploma programmes in this homepage.

Career Prospects

Graduates may be employed as technician apprentices, assistant training officers or service advisor trainees in the automobile industry.

Remarks

DVE students who have not obtained Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics may consider taking the elective module “Mathematics 3E: Mathematics for Further Studies” for the eligibility to apply for VTC’s Higher Diploma programmes which require Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics as one of their entrance requirements.

Remarks

The study duration of Diploma of Vocational Education programmes is normally 1 year. The tuition fee is payable in two installments.
In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay other fees, such as caution money and students’ union annual fees.
Some students may be required to study bridging modules or enhancement programmes to support their study; or to attend additional training, industrial attachments, public examinations for which separate fees will be charged.
Tuition fees are subject to annual review.
