FAQ

1. Am I eligible to apply for the Cantonese courses if I am not a Hong Kong resident?

No, the Cantonese courses are open for Hong Kong ordinarily or permanent residents who are non-Chinese speakers aged 15 or above.  For the definition of Hong Kong ordinarily residents, please refer to the Immigration Department website.

2. I cannot speak Cantonese at all. What Cantonese course should I apply for?

You are advised to apply for Survival Cantonese if you have acquired basic English literacy skills with no prior Cantonese knowledge.  

3. I have not studied Survival Cantonese before. Can I still apply for Socialising Cantonese?

Yes, an oral entry test will be arranged for you. You will be admitted to the course if you pass the entry test. 

4. How do I know my application status?

Upon submitting the application form and settling the payment, applicants will receive a notification email one week before the course commences.  For details, please refer to the application procedure

5. What if I do not get the admission notification email before the course starts?

You are advised to check if the email is in the spam folder.  You could also contact the VLPO to enquire about your application status if you still do not receive the email THREE days before the course commences. 

6. How do I know the class venue?

The course details, including the class venue, are clearly stated in the ‘admission notification email’.
