Youth College Open Days: fun-filled learning to turn interest into career

1 March 2018

Youth College, a member institution of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), will hold its Open Days on 9 March and 16 March for two consecutive Fridays. Parents and students can visit the campuses to learn more about the state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, and experience the diversified learning activities and stall games. Students can also apply for Diploma of Vocational Education programmes (DVE) or Vocational Baccalaureate Programmes (VB) onsite for achieving a head start in the future path and turn their interest into professional skill sets.

Members of the public are welcome to the Open Days where an array of activities will be arranged. Visitors can tour around the virtual reality teaching facilities on lift operations, enjoy demonstrations on professional teaching equipment and workmanship and try out the experiential activities like dining etiquette learning session or join the computer-assembly competition (details attached in the Annex). Apart from Youth College, the Pro-Act Training and Development Centres at the VTC Kowloon Bay and Kwai Chung Complexes as well as the Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI) at VTC Kowloon Bay Complex and Tin Shui Wai will also open for the public. Through skill demonstrations, parents and students can get to know the diversity of professional and vocational education and training better.
Apart from teaching facilities, visitors can also get the latest programme information of Youth College. In AY2018/19, Youth College will offer a total of 19 DVE programmes under three major study areas: Business and Services, Engineering and Design and Information Technology, including two new programmes namely DVE (Business Event Operations) and DVE (Hotel Studies), targeting Secondary 3 or above students. They enable students to choose suitable programmes according to their learning interests and pace so as to develop the requisite skills for achieving the dual goals of academic progression and career development. Upon satisfactory completion of a DVE programme, graduates can apply for higher diploma programmes of VTC to obtain a higher academic qualification.
Concurrently the newly-offered VB programmes provide flexible local and internationally-recognised study options for post-Secondary 3 students with English as the medium of instruction and assessment. Students will study modules in IGCSE-level English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics. Referencing international benchmarks, programmes leading to the award of BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma will be offered, and students can choose from the two study areas of Engineering and Design. Lessons will be conducted in the Tsing Yi or Lee Wai Lee Campuses of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) or Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). Upon conferment of VB, graduates can progress to degree programmes in Hong Kong and abroad or higher diploma programmes provided by member institutions of VTC.
DVE programmes and VB programmes are inviting application. Students of Secondary 3 or above are welcome to apply onsite or check out information on programmes and progression pathways during the Youth College Open Days.
