Basic Information

The programme has been developed to produce professionals who are well-equipped with knowledge in green technologies, sustainability and IT skills in response to the Government’s environmental initiative on climate action plan, environmental protection, waste management and smart city development. It aims to equip students with professional knowledge and skills to pursue careers and to assume leadership roles to serve the manpower needs of the environmental industry. The programme covers a broad range of professional knowledge related to emerging environmental technology, nature conservation, smart environmental monitoring, carbon audit, ESG, machine learning for environmental applications and renewable energy systems. The learning experience is further enriched by the 720-hour credit-bearing work-integrated learning, along with a general education study developed to prepare for a career. Graduates from the programme will be professionally competent as well as socially and globally responsible.

Professional Recognition

The program has been granted provisional accreditation by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).

  1. Core modules would be conducted at THEi (Tsing Yi) and some General Education (GE) modules at other campuses.

Admission score in 2024 refers to score of the best 5 HKDSE subjects, including Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Citizenship and Social Development, and one elective subject of admitted students in 2024. For reference only. (Scoring scale: 5** = 7 points; 5* = 6 points; 5 = 5 points: 4 = 4 points; 3 = 3 points; 2 = 2 points; 1 = 1 point).

*Upon completion of the Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (DVB) programmes, students can progress to Degree programmes in VTC, subject to their BTEC and IGCSE results.
  1. These are the entrance requirements of Year 1 entry.
  2. A "Grade D or E" and a "Grade C or above" in an HKDSE Other Language subject (Category C subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2" and "Level 3" respectively (for 2024 HKDSE and before). One Other Language subject can be counted for admission purpose. Recognition of Other Language subject (Category C subjects) in 2025 HKDSE will be announced later.
  3. An "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" in an HKDSE Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B subjects) are regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively, and a maximum of two ApL subjects (excluding ApL(C)) can be counted for admission purpose.  The results of relevant ApL subjects will be considered in the application for Degree programmes. Relevant ApL subjects include: Electrical and Energy Engineering, Digital Construction, Tech Basics, Constructing Smart Cities, AI and Robotics and Computer Forensic Technology.
  4. An “Attained” in HKDSE Citizenship and Social Development is regarded as equivalent to an HKDSE subject at “Level 2” for admission purpose.
  5. HKDSE Liberal Studies at Level 2 or above will be recognised for meeting the subject requirement of Citizenship and Social Development.

Graduates are able to articulate to Master Programmes in sustainability, environmental engineering / science, energy engineering, environmental analytics and global environment or other sustainability related areas.
Career Prospects
Graduates may be employed as assistant environmental engineers / consultants, graduate trainees, carbon auditors, assistant sustainability officers, assistant ESG officers, environmental and energy data scientists / analysts, project managers in government departments (such as Environmental Protection Department), technology development associate in public and private utilities (such as railway, electric and gas companies), project manager (consultancies), facility manager, (facilities and building management companies, waste treatment and recycling management service providers, non-government organisations and private corporations).

Remarks
  1. The study duration of Degree programmes is normally 4 years. The tuition fees of Degree programmes are charged according to the number of credit points taken during a semester. Students have to complete at least 120 to 132 credit points for graduation.
  2. In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay other fees, such as caution money, students’ union entrance fees and annual fee.
  3. Depending on the requirements of individual programmes, students may be required to attend additional training / industrial attachments, for which separate fees will be charged.
