VTC provides a comprehensive pathway for students from Secondary 3 to Secondary 5, offering industry-focused knowledge and skills that enable flexible progression towards further education and employment.
Diploma of Vocational Education
Offered by the Youth College (YC) and the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT), the Diploma of Vocational Education (DVE) encompasses three major areas: Business and Services, Engineering, and Design and Information Technology, catering to students’ diverse interests and needs. The programmes adopt a credit-based system with a flexible curriculum to best prepare students for future studies and employment.
The typical duration of the DVE is three years, and the programmes are accredited locally. Holders of DVE are considered having met the general entrance requirements of Higher Diploma programmes*. They are entitled to be granted module exemptions when they complete the respective programme and pursue further studies in the relevant subject area.
Holders of the DVE may choose to seek employment. Some graduates may pursue further part-time studies while employed. Some students can join the VTC Earn & Learn Scheme under the 'Apprenticeship Training’, and receive on-the-job training while earning a stable income and allowance.
Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate Programmes
The Diploma of Vocational Baccalaureate (DVB) is offered by the Youth College (International) (YCI), providing an additional articulation pathway for Secondary 3 to Secondary 5 students.
The curriculum is designed with reference to local and international academic standards, including the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework, IGCSE examinations and BTEC diploma programme of the United Kingdom, and adopts English as the medium of instruction for most of its modules.
The typical duration of the DVB is three years, and the curriculum aligns with international standards. The professional modules in design, engineering, and sports correspond to the UK BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma programme, allowing students to choose electives according to their interests and enhance their knowledge and skills through project-based learning.
Upon graduation, DVB students shall possess the academic standing recognised for both further studies in Hong Kong and ointernationally, or progress to degree or higher diploma programmes offered by VTC institutions.
Certificate Programmes in Hotel and Tourism / Chinese Cuisine / International Cuisine
The Hotel and Tourism Institute (HTI), Chinese Culinary Institute (CCI), and International Culinary Institute (ICI) offer a range of certificate programmes covering hotel operations and various culinary disciplines, tailored to industry needs. The typical duration of these programmes ranges from six months to two years.
Our institutions are equipped with cutting-edge training facilities, including the T Hotel (a training hotel), Chinese and Western training restaurants, multi-cuisine training kitchens, Wine and Beverage Laboratory, etc. Through practical experience serving guests, students gain valuable hands-on skills to prepare for careers in the hotel, tourism, and catering industries.
Upon completing the relevant courses and specific modules, students can choose to articulate to the diploma programmes in hotel operations, food and beverage service, Chinese culinary, or international culinary arts offered by the institutes.
VTC diploma qualifications are widely recognised, and the institutes also provide employment referral services to assist graduates in entering the industry or various hospitality organisations.
Certificate for Junior General Purpose Ratings
The Certificate for Junior General Purpose Ratings, offered by the Maritime Training Institute (MSTI), is recognised by the Hong Kong Marine Department and meets the requirements of International Convention on Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). It is an approved training course included the Local Vessel Trade Training Incentive Scheme under the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF).The curriculum includes essential knowledge of marine engineering and seamanship, basic training for oil and chemical cargo operations, trade English, firefighting, and first aid training, with a typical duration of 23 weeks. Graduates may enter the workforce as seafarers or within other maritime-related fields. The institute's Recruitment and Placement Officers also assist students in registering as seafarers and preparing for interviews.
