Participating in

Community Services

To promote care and concern to

the needy in our community, as

well as foster a sense of social

responsibility among students, over

13,000 VTC students and staff

supported the citywide Volunteer

Movement organised by the Social

Welfare Department. Together they

have recorded over 276,000 hours of

service to the local community.

Promoting Inter-generational

Harmony

In view of the soaring number of silver

hair residents in Hong Kong and their

specific needs, the VTC launched

an Elder-friendly Design Campaign

in 2015. Students from various

友善設計比賽」,邀請不同學科的學生設

計各項軟硬件設施,例如供酒店及旅遊

學院轄下

酒店採用的「銀髮市場酒店套

房」,或研發符合長者住宿和旅遊需要的

套裝行程。

這項比賽一方面鼓勵運用設計思維,實

現跨學科合作,另一方面也設立平台,

讓學生深入研究長者各種需要,實踐專

業知識和技能;既洞悉銀髮市場的優厚

潛力,亦更懂得尊重長者。

disciplines were invited to design either

hardware or software for a Model Hotel

Suite for the Silver-hair Market at the

T-Hotel under the Hotel and Tourism

Institute, or travelling packages tailored

for the accommodation and travelling

needs of senior citizens.

The Campaign facilitated cross-

disciplinary collaboration with

the application of design thinking

throughout the competition. It also

served as a successful platform for

students to conduct research and

study on the various needs of senior

citizens, exercise their vocational and

professional knowledge and skills in the

learning process, be aware of the great

potential of the silver-hair market, and

show respect for the elderly.
