“Engineering is an endless sea of knowledge. I had the privilege
to lead the team to develop SOPHIE, the solar-powered car that
participated in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2012 contest in Kuala
Lumpur. The experience in putting theory into practice has been
important in my life ever since,” said LEE Wai-kin, graduate of IVE
Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering in 2012.
With the encouragement and support from teachers, Lee and his
IVE classmates represented Hong Kong in the event, competing with
more than 100 teams from 18 countries and areas. LEE and his
classmates were tasked with designing and constructing a vehicle
that can run the longest distance with minimal fuel. “The teammates
are just like the gears and components of a vehicle. We had different
roles in a team. As a team leader, I was responsible for managing
and co-ordinating different tasks to ensure that we could do the
best and performed at our peak in the competition. To prepare for
the contest, the whole team worked and experimented continuously
after class. We encountered many hurdles at the beginning in making
this solar vehicle. With our perseverance and unity, we finally solved
the problems and successfully constructed the energy converter for
transforming solar energy into electricity.”
Through their professional knowledge, high tech design and quick
responses to unforeseen scenarios, the SOPHIE Team clinched the
first runner-up of the Solar Prototype Class of Shell Eco-marathon
Asia 2012. “Participating in overseas competition helped broaden
my horizons, and my leadership, communication and problem-
solving skills were further enhanced by being nominated the leader
of SOPHIE Team. I am grateful to the guidance of my teachers. I had
without doubt a great learning experience each day at IVE.”
LEE Wai-kin is now studying a bachelor degree programme in
electrical engineering in a local university, heading to his dream as
an engineer.

在多位老師的鼓勵和支持下，李偉健與一班

同學代表香港披甲上陣，與來自

組選手同場較量。偉健與隊友需設計
及製造一輛環保車，並利用最少電能，走最遠
的路。他指出︰「隊友就如汽車的齒輪和零件一
樣，功能不同，各司其職。我身為隊長，需負
責管理和統籌各項工作，確保每名隊員均傾盡
全力，發揮出最佳水準。為了備戰，我們於課
後不停工作，反覆進行測試。在研製初期，我
們遇上各式各樣的難題，但憑着堅定意志和團
結精神，最終都能克服困難，成功製造出能量
轉換器，將太陽能轉化為電能。」
SOPHIE
車隊憑着專業工程知識、高科技的設
計，以及面對未知障礙的迅速應變能力，在
2012
蜆殼亞洲環保汽車馬拉松賽事中，勇奪原
型概念太陽能組別項目亞軍。「參加海外比賽有
助擴闊我的眼界，獲選為隊長進一步提升我的
領導、溝通及解決問題技巧。十分感謝每位老
師對我們的循循善誘。我能肯定的說，在
IVE
的
每一日都是充實的學習體驗。」
李偉健現於本地一所大學修讀電機工程學士課
程，逐步實現成為工程師的夢想。
