New Training Facilities

To keep our students abreast of the

latest developments in industry and

enable them to be conversant with the

tools and technologies of tomorrow’s

workplace, various new training facilities

have been planned or established in

different campuses. The advancement

of campus facilities has added further

momentum to the VTC’s endeavours.

Amongst the new initiatives is the

establishment of STEM Education

Centres on the campuses of the Youth

College (Kowloon Bay), IVE (Tsing

Yi) and IVE (Chai Wan) in late 2016

and early 2017. They will support

the learning and teaching of STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering

and Mathematics) and serve as a

platform for students and staff in these

disciplines to explore related trade

and cross-disciplinary projects. A key

feature of the Centres will be virtual

experience learning zones, making

full use of augmented reality (AR) and

virtual reality (VR) technologies. They

will provide students with an immersive

simulated environment for a virtual

workplace experience.

To increase student engagement and

enhance the effectiveness of skills-

based training, the VTC has been active

in creating digital learning environments

and adopted innovative technologies

in its teaching and learning. A pilot

study on AR/VR-assisted Learning and

Teaching was initiated in June 2014,

and three practical training areas were

identified, namely Building Services

Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance and

Arboriculture. A VR-based simulation

training system was launched in

the Youth College (Kowloon Bay) in

November 2015, allowing students to

explore real-life immersive experiences

in a simulated engine plant room.

A new Human Resource Assessment

Centre was opened during the year at

IVE (Kwun Tong), providing an interactive

environment for training students as

human resources professionals.

VTC

VTC

將於

2016

年底至

2017

IVE

(青

IVE

STEM

STEM

STEM

VTC

IVE
