Basic Information

The programme aims to deliver a quality education, with vocational and generic elements, that will enable students to achieve both the basic skills required for developing a career in the industry, and a sound academic foundation for further studies. The programme focuses heavily on communication, in particular English, Chinese with Putonghua and Information Technology, as these areas are particularly important in the workplace. Emphasis is also placed on the development of interpersonal skills and teamwork, and a student-centred approach.

Remarks
  1. Students are required to follow the programme arrangements stipulated by HKIIT, on average 3 - 4 evenings per week, normally 3 semesters (with summer semester) per academic year.

Graduates of Diploma of Foundation Studies are eligible to apply for VTC Higher Diploma programmes, which normally require five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including Chinese Language and English Language.

Remarks
  1. Diploma of Foundation Studies students who have not obtained Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics may consider taking the optional module “Foundation Mathematics III” for the eligibility to apply for VTC Higher Diploma programmes or related civil service jobs which require Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics as one of their general entry requirements. Optional modules will not be included in the calculation of cumulative / award module average for Diploma of Foundation Studies.
  2. All students will be required to take and pass all of the Structured Whole Person Development modules (total 16 credits) before graduation. Students possessing at least one year full-time work experience (from the date of attaining the qualifications that can meet the entry requirements of Diploma of Foundation Studies) can apply for module exemption.
