Basic Information

The programme aims to provide students with design fundamentals, language and generic skills for further studies. Through a "think and do" interactive approach, the design modules emphasise the conceptual and practical skills, design technology, the creative process, and the key aspects of the design industry. Students also learn presentation, communication and interpersonal skills necessary for the study of design.

Professional Recognition

Students who are studying Diploma of Foundation Studies - Design are eligible to apply for the following student membership:
  • Hong Kong Designers Association (HKDA)
  • Industrial Designers Society of Hong Kong Limited (IDSHK)
Remarks
  1. Students may be required to attend classes on other VTC campuses. VTC reserves the right to cancel any programme, revise programme title, content or change the offering institute(s) / campus(es) / class venue(s) if circumstances so warrant.
  2. The revalidation of the programme will be conducted in 2025. The curriculum will be updated if circumstances so warrant.

  • Completion of Secondary 6 (under the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure); OR
  • Equivalent

Articulation / Employment

Articulation
Graduates of Diploma of Foundation Studies are eligible to apply for VTC’s Higher Diploma programmes, which normally require five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including Chinese Language and English Language.

Remarks
  1. Diploma of Foundation Studies students may also consider taking the optional module 'Foundation Mathematics III' for the eligibility to apply for VTC's Higher Diploma programmes or related civil service jobs which require Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics as one of their entrance requirements. Separate tuition fee will be charged for this optional module.

Remarks
  1. The study duration of Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes is normally 1 year. The tuition fee is payable in two installments.
  2. In addition to tuition fees, students will be required to pay other fees, such as caution money and students’ union annual fees.
  3. Some students may be required to study bridging modules or enhancement programmes to support their study; or to attend additional training, industrial attachments, public examinations for which separate fees will be charged.
  4. Students of Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes may choose to take the optional module “Foundation Mathematics III” with a separate tuition fee.

HKDI x KMB Collaborative Project - "永續‧Get Set‧Go!"

Diploma of Foundation Studies (Design) students participated in a collaborative event organised by HKDI and KMB: The Bus Body Graphics Design Competition. The winning students' designs were selected to be featured on three buses, which will be operating in various districts across Hong Kong.

「點睇廣東話」- Illustration exhibition at Airside

Students from Diploma of Foundation Studies (Design) created a series of illustrations themed around Cantonese, utilising the design skills they have learned. These works were exhibited at the Airside, attracting a significant number of viewers.
